Sideways ?!?! May I ask why ? Were you turning your back on Inglebuggar to block it out ?

I've run the route plenty of times since and haven't needed to employ that tactic but I might try it again on Saturday if my calves play up

    Quick question.

Regarding the bottles that we can leave at the drinks stops, what happens usually? Do people stand and drink them and replace the bottles, or run a bit then drop them or what?

Just wondering, as I don't want to lose my bottles!

ha ha, no, I read it in a book somewhere and thought I'd try it out. You use different muscles and it rests your calves a bit. It actually worked really well and I was no slower ascending than the people around me but I looked like an eejit!

I do not need to be running up a hill sideways to look like an idiot it just seems to come naturally to me.

I have always used disposable ones so you don't have to worry about losing them.

You can stand and drink them, but I usually run on with them a while, then when I've finished i shove them in my little rucksack, or sometimes a kindly marshal/helper might be a few hundred yards further on and gladly take any empties of ya. Not a good idea just to drop empty bottles anywhere

I'm queasily excited too. Tomorrow will be my first go at this and so my goals as such are: (1) to finish, (2) to enjoy it, (3) not to disgrace myself. No idea what time to aim for - maybe 4:30. I expect this will become clear by Ribble Head...!

Sorry I didn't mean just drop them anywhere, I was wondering if there was a specific place to leave them other than the initial pick up point! :-)

Never thought of disposable, cracking idea!
