Jack Holder, running Leg 2 for the A team also sprained an ankle at the end of the descent of Stoodley Pike (he has two ruptured ligaments). They were 4th at the time. Helped to a marshall at the road junction, and took 5-7 mins to sort out before his partner could continue, but by this time in about 10th/11th place.

Gutted for spencer, top lad. Same with jack holder he's only just started racing again after doing something similar at the badger stone relays last year as me and watdog carried him down from the top of ilkley moor last year. Hope they both make a speedy recovery. Cheers for the results manothemoors much appreciated. We had a decent first attempt as a club finishing 13th. Look forward to try and improving on it for next year.

I thought that Barlick had a cracking race for a first time up. I know that we are a fairly big club and we had all kinds of trouble getting a first team together....they all got injured in the last few weeks.
So which brother are you...the one that finished first or just behind?

It's the Race Director who makes the call. He has very little option to be honest and even though the kit list might seem a bit over the top on a day like Sunday, the only fair thing to do is apply it without fear or favour.

Under the direction of Madeleine Watson, the FRA Chair, a sub-group, which I am leading, is revising the FRA Safety Requirements and these, on matters such as “kit” and aspects of race monitoring, like unreadable vest numbers, are going to be more demanding from 2014.

And this review is independent of any outcome from the Inquest into the death of Brian Belfield at Buttermere Sailbeck in 2012, which has not yet been held.

Is this sub group you are leading inviting submissions or contributions from the wider sport? Just wondering Graham - it might be a good idea to do that. Perhaps you can set a separate thread up?

Graham, on race monitoring, the procedures we had seemed to work quite well .... we were certainly aware when we had two ladies missing on my checkpoint (they arrived very late, having got lost). I'm sure you've heard more than enough feedback but I'll offer my observations. The issues that seemed to be most contentious/needed most clarity for runners were 1, what constitutes "a map" and 2, what can reasonably be construed as "full body cover".

Comment is free but I do not wish to start a debate on here. I really only commented to support the DSQ at the CWR but:

i) the current wording in 9 c says "map and compass suitable for navigating the course" so if someone turns up with an AA road map and a compass from a Xmas cracker the RO can just say "good joke but you aren't running so 'bye" and the FRA will support that approach. So long as the RO complies with the FRA rules he/she can do what they want. It is their event.

ii) I am not trailing the changes because the work is in progress but we will clarify full body cover.

They have both run around that time for a marathon. One of them was full of cold and only ran at the last minute: without that the money would have been in danger.

I ran for our Vets team and they came past us on the final climb. One looked a lot stronger than the other, presumably the one with a cold. He had a couple of sneaky walks in the final field when his team mate wasn't looking!

Not strictly true, they were in 4th place but there were no marshalls. I was on London Road watching and saw Jack fall near the bottom. I gave Jack a lift to the end of the leg and told his partner to carry on well before they got to the road. I had to rush to get my lift to leg 5 after i dropped him off.
