    Re: Shutlingsloe

Should have been busy in the Lakes this weekend, but food poisoning re-arranged that for me.

So had a go here and feel all the better for doing so.

This was my first fell race in about 2006? - ish, and is on my doorstep... good fun.

I think I am reasonably well recovered and may have PB'd at 24 minutes plus, but have to wait for the results.
I do know I suffered the indignity of being beaten by a couple of schoolboys, but it was great fun.. as ever.

Lung busting climbing and then descend as fast as you dare through the bluebell wood that is... a challenge. Imagine a descent down a 45 degree slope covered in banana skins... but you laugh and smile all the way down...:w00t:

... only to really suffer on the way back up the field in full view of the assembled hordes... in my case to have these young lads make a fool of me... I just couldn't catch 'em.

    You have to laugh............

Good to chat with Daz and meet Truck over a pint afterwards.

Great fun this one , in a lovely, pretty setting... have a go next year.

I just realised that this was my 100th fell race

    and I couldn't've picked a better one
just a fantastic little event run off a text-book village fete in glorious weather
the cavalry charge down to the stream,
    paddling across
mental climb up steep bank through bluebell wood
emerge to see the steep side of Shutlingsloe dead ahead
    ever steepening ascent
    round the trig
mental jump off said steep side of Shutlingsloe
    fast running down to wood
slide on @rse down to stream
horrific drag back up to the finish
    beer/burger/chat with lantern/Truck afterwards

roll on my next 100...

    Re: Shutlingsloe

It's that time of year again. If you're travelling to the Peak for the bank holiday, or are staying around, there's no better place to be.

Fantastic fell race, lovely local fete. We might even get nice weather this year.

If anyone fancies themselves to beat Simon Bailey's record (other than Simon himself - he's been trying for the last 8 years), there's a cash prize this year. That goes for the ladies record too (set by Jackie Lee).

Is there an interesting spot somewhere for a marshall / photographer?

Certainly is, Dom - thanks for the offer. The best spot for photographs is probably somewhere near the top of Shutlingsloe, or maybe half way up/down the descent to capture people in strain/flow. If you're heading up that way, perhaps you could marshall the furthest point on the under-12s, race which goes to the top of the bluebell woods.

I'll see you on the day
