Stir away Martin - the more the merrier. Daz's decisions are final of course, but if logic starts to enter into it too much then I'll probably lose interest. Maybe it's about time someone started an alternative forum champs thread with slightly different rules, to really get the arguments going. Me, I'll stick with the People's Front of Judea. For now.

I don't make "decisions" I just do what people tell me
the self-certify/objection approach seems to work pretty well

meanwhile... I can't believe that Nick & I are the only ones doing Kinder Trog on Sunday - anybody else be there...?

    Re: Forum Champs

On and off for some time now I've been racking my brains for a good scoring system for the forum champs that would favour everyone equally, regardless of their standard, and I think I've come up with a speck of an idea. Broadly speaking you get a point for doing better than last time and lose a point for doing worse. So, jumping forward to January 2014 (or back to the start of this year) you compare your percentile performance of your best race in the month to the percentile performance of your last. Lets say I came 80/200 in my last race (40%) and I came 70/200 in my current (best for the month) race (35%). For that I score +1 point and if things were the other way round I'd lose -1 point.

Therefore a forum champee over the year could get a very best, consistantly improving month by month, score of +12 and a worse possible score of -12. Now that could be fun? Food for thought for next year anyhow?

Depends whether a top runners or a local lad wins.
There must be better systems Stolly.

    Re: Forum Champs

I think Stolly's method is better for not being dependent on whether a top runner or a local lad wins. In Stolly's system your score is down to relative position versus the entire field rather than just relative to the winner.

    Re: Forum Champs

Of course 'Top runner' and 'local lad' are often one and the same - my April and June (so far) scores were in races won by Messrs Adams and Holmes respectively.

To be honest whether there are more or less elite runners in a race will be pretty irrelevant - you'd be largely comparing yourself with yourself. Under my proposed scoring system somebody winning each and every race wouldn't score any points because he/she'd never be improving over the previous race

I'd have thought that the simplest criteria would be that only FRA or BOFRA races count, and not mountain marathon score type events? Or is that two too many rules ?

Let's not get too tied up with rules, it's all a bit of fun - isn't it? I think in the original discussion (18 months ago) about LDWA events it was suggested they should also meet FRA criteria of distance/ascent ratio, but I prefer the looser "anything you're not embarassed to claim on a fellrunning forum".
