    Tough luck Mark, brave effort.
You looked to be going so well when we saw you at Harrison Stickle?

Richard (Andrews) arrived at Dunmail dead on schedule, had a little bad patch up to High Raise but quickly recovered and turned a 9 minute deficit into a 4 minute cushion between Rossett Pike and Bowfell. He just grew in strength and speed after that and looked very comfortable arriving at Wasdale 27 minutes up. He gained another 20 mins on leg 4 and arrived back at Moot Hall after 22hours 6mins.
    Well done Rich, cracking effort.

Sorry to hear the news Mark. After such a strong start and on schedule it must have been really painful to stop you. I guess the hard baked ground won't have helped - not much soft going after all this sun and no rain. Next time I'm sure.

Bad luck Mark, I love mudclaws but don't think my feet would stand 24 hours in them, for long runs at BG pace I like the 315/318 rocklights or if it is more grass X-Talons.

    Well done Richard.

I dont think mudclaws are that good on leg 2 as its more of a trail probably the same with leg 5 but i would definately say good for leg 1,3,4 but this is where his problems may have began but not realised until later on round we wont know until mark says
    well done richard

Hi everyone, thank you very much for your kind words of encouragement and support. It was a very hard decision to make to pull my round due to swollen and sore feet despite being up on schedule and being so close. All I can say is it was a truly fantastic day out on the fells with exceptional people who I'm proud to know and be friends with, they were always full of encouragement for me. It was also a great learning curve yesterday, I learnt so much about myself. It is a great achievement to me as it is the furthest I have ever run in one go and today I feel as though I haven't done it at all except for my aching and sore feet. I have no doubt I would've succeeded otherwise.
The plan is now is to have a good recovery and to help support others on their rounds this year but I will be back next year for an attempt and for sure I will nail it next time with a better choice of shoes:wink:.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Richard on his successful BG round and nice to have met you.

Seems like pure bad luck Mark! Seemed like you were flying. Difficult to predict that kind of problem, especially when you've trained through the winter/spring we had!! By everybody's comments you'll be back next year fitter and wiser!! Good luck for the future attempt!
