Indeed:see Peris Horseshoe Unbeatable Women's Record? in The Fellrunner June 2006.

It might be worth recalling that of the 10 "best" records at the time of writing for Long "A" races, 5 were held by Angela Mudge, 3 by Menna Angharad and the others by Mari Todd and Sarah; who incidentally was consulted by the author of the article.

I think you will struggle to see anyone get near Carol's time, unless they are a sub 70 half and can descend (hit return bar here) Wasdale - I ran 4.30 ish the week after skiddaw (so would have had sore/stiff legs) on a wet day wearing gore tex all the way and having no idea where I was going - so I am sure with the right conditions etc it is beatable - more so than Carol's

Ok, well the only positive thing I can say about my race (given that I was 1hr 20min slower than last time - 2009 on a fairly hot day), is that I was happy with my descent off Gable and, looking at the splits, I appear to have made 15 places from there to the end (almost all of them by the next check-point).
Interesting that both Konrad & Bob Smith arrived at Gable within a couple of minutes of each other, and then took over an hour to get to Esk Hause. Did they take a major detour, or was it the dreaded cramp? I suffered awful cramp on the descent from the Pike.

difficult to discuss the results if you can't see them

not sure what your post adds to the discussion of the results ??

I would love to discuss my splits, but the details of the DNF's are not included - maybe a revised results will be issued in due course...?

I think the 22% differential in the Men's/Women's record may have more to do with how "rock hard" the men's record is rather than how "soft" the women's...?

    Agreed

Carol's record is outstanding at 116.5% of Kenny Stuart's record which in itself is outstanding and has stood for 28 years; but then Carol was also a fast road runner. Unless things have changed recently Carol also held the 2nd and 3rd fastest times ahead of Angela Mudge in 4th and over 3 minutes slower.

    Re: Wasdale

It amazes me the culture of running every week, some good records but it's not what I mean by performance running. So Janet McIver with Duddon and Ennerdale, or many of the Skyrunner athletes, although obviously they target some races more than others. I'm looking forward to Peris With proper preparation..

And then things like the Via TransAlpin take it a step further and it's every day!

TBH its probably time for a new Snowdon record.... the route is now slower.. much slower if the railway isn't used..

Whilst it may still have not been broken the different terrain means its not being challenged for non-athletic reasons..

The 3000ers has stood for a similar time and I doubt that route has changed too much.

Snowdon - well Llanberis path changes so much year on year, but it was much faster 15 years ago when it was just crushed rock.. now the steps make it slower but also the rougher nature of the path, but mainly the change at the top...

I'm not sure if KS's record was set with the huge short cut higher up which is now banned... thats another factor.

Undoubtably a great record and most probably it wouldn't be broken, almost certainly, but the gap is greater than it should be..
