    Just to clarify - bodyglide on feet? I use it - er - elsewhere - and it works very well.

    It is good on feet. But as with everything there are limits. The L100 is definitely well beyond the limit for me.

    Sudocrem is basically a barrier cream that is designed for nappy rash etc therefore it is more stable when confronted with moisture e.g. sweat, (well evidenced when you try to wash it off your hands) Plus if it helps the tender skin of a baby then it sure as hell will do wonders for the grizzled skin of an ultra runner.

    Joking aside I have long used sudocreme to good effect and prefer it to vaseline for the reasons already stated plus I am not happy smothering my body with a petroleum based product, but as with all things we are all different and what works for one, may well not work for another, another good point is that SUDOCREME is cheap compared to the so called propriety brands that are designed to empty your wallet and I would suggest trying Sudocreme before paying out on the more expensive brands.

    Yes it was great to catch up DT but I was saddened a little for you and Steph when you decided to Bail at Mardale although I know it was the right decision for you both, I threw in the towel at Ambleside due to an ongoing loss of hearing in my left ear giving me slight balance problems which where being exacerbated by the lack of wet grip of my road shoes, no worries though all part of life's rich tapestry and you can rest assured that me and the Lakeland 100 are not finished yet, although I am not planning on doing it next year as there are other fish to fry in 2014 all of which will require copious amounts of Sudocreme:thumbup:

    I used Lanacane and it worked well but I probably should have been a bit more liberal in ahem, certain areas. Ran the last 20 miles feeling like I was clenching a sheet of coarse grade sandpaper between my butt cheeks! On the shoe front, that was a bit more successful. Ran to Dalemain in Saucony Kinvara tr, very comfortable indeed, then changed to Kinvara 3 road shoes which were even comfortabler! Trail slippers! When the rain came I feared the worst but those thing turned out to have incredible grip on wet rock, better than any fell shoe I've tried. Also good on grass, wet and dry, they were amazing! However, on mud they were totally and utterly useless, I was on my arse a couple of times. All in all though a gamble that paid off, my feet suffered minimal damage.

    Given the temperatures last weekend, coupled with the possible use of NSAIDs and the detrimental effect on the kidneys and hydration then I am not suprised that there was a lot of Nausea

    I have not used NSAIDS for years and I use Ginger for its anti- inflammatory properties, before, during and after an event

    It always disappoints me that whilst you may often find coke (caffeine )at events I have yet to find ginger served up as often as it should be, (except at some LDWA event`s) say in the form of flat ginger beer or even ginger cake or biscuits a great and useful alternative to the boring bog standard malt bread /custard cream.

    I also avoid caffeine

    NSAID + ULTRA = bad combination. How effective ginger is as a medicine I have no idea but it is delicious in both drinks (non alcoholic for me) and food.

    I can understand your point totally and will take that into account. However after suffering terrible nausea, headache and dizziness from up Fusedale to Mardale Head, I took two Ibuprofen at Mardale Head and then 15 minutes later felt like a new woman and picked off 153 people to the finish :wink:
    On the chaffage front I did pretty well with just a small area across my back. Feet were perfectly comfortable in my Salomon Speedcross apart from stubbing my toe on a rock which has resulted in a black toenail :thunbdown:

    On the important subject of lubricants I use three varieties - Sportslick for the feet, Brave Soldier Friction Zone for the undercarriage and associated crevices, and Bodyglide for around the armpits. They have made Ultra-running such a comfortable experience compared to the early years. In my first Hundred in 2000 in monsoon-like conditions, trenchfoot was widespread and my a*se cheeks welded together painfully. :thunbdown:

    Now for something completely different. Here's the best of the pictures I took on the Lakeland 100 weekend. There would have been more had the first showers not forced me to put the (clapped-out) camera away before Kentmere. Sorry for the dreadful quality.
