    Re: Turner Landscape

Thought I'd check if anyone knows if entry is by post or whether there'll be online entry via the website. The website says entries open from 1 May, but can't see a link so thought maybe it means entry's by post.

Don't intend to start a panic, but thought I'd check.

    Cheers.

From the website: but there are no entry limits so no need to panic!

Yep, saw that. That's why I thought I'd carry on the theme of not panicking! But I wondered if anyone knew how to enter, either in a panic or with your feet up whilst smoking a pipe!

The opinions below are my own..not the views of the management, I accept the blame for them.

Sadly despite our best efforts - myself who threw the website up with the intention of online entry exactly as our other race waltz ( probably the first to go online many years ago) and - wynny supremely talented organiser of registration and results were unable to convince the " owner " of the race to take up the free offer to do online entry for him.

So we are back in the dark ages seemingly- doing things the old way.

For my own part, I would not have volunteered to throw up the site without online entry, and more importantly for a new race that has never handled more than tens of runners to jump to hundreds and championship status needs all the organisational help it can get - it should in my view have been made conditional by the approving committee, in allowing a new race to become a counter.

Moreover anyone who values time as worth anything would gladly pay the merchant fees associated with online cash collection in order to get the list of entries in spreadsheet form without any typing or paper shuffling. The crux of the matter appears to be " maximising donations" to the supported charity, an argument that does not stand scrutiny. I am certain runners would happily pay 50p to enter online so that to me is a specious argument, demanding peopke waste the same money on stamps instead, so the argument on donation is a non starter.

For sure races such as Sedbergh operate well on the old methods of entry and even Old methods of management but they have the mechanics all down to a fine art after years of experience, and can handle a field of hundreds without breaking sweat. They are not a new race that has never operated 100 runners let alone a championship field.

So i for one am unimpressed, but powerless to change it to online entry which is what we wanted to do But then that is why I would never volunteer for a committee and no sensible committee woukd ever have me! I am not afraid to express opinions!

That said, I love the duddon valley and course Which I hope will become a classic, and I hope all involved have a great day! I have every confidence in Wynny and am sure she will make sure it goes smoothly on day - but I am equally sure her life would have been made easier without jurassic age paper shuffling,

( puts on hard hat in expectation of the rocks about to be thrown my way!)

Does anyone know if, on a recce, you can get straight from the farm/campsite to the road and then on to the fells, or does that pass through private land that's only accessible on race day?

The race map shows a bit of a path, but it seems to peter out.

    Thanks.

Yes there's a distinct path all the way from the campsite to the road, then turn right for the fells.

Flagged and marshalled at the start last year. Also unless you are at the front I don't think you have to worry to much !
Last year, last descent was flagged from the old mines. A lot went wrong right near the bottom where the route goes left and it feels like you need to go straight on. I assume this year they will sort that out.

Records will definitely go this year !
