    What rough ground!

really enjoyed it, especially after grey friar (although that was better than expected), but I am a sucker for a lovely smooth ridge run!

The descent from The Old Man is pretty rough, as is the final descent - for my legs anyway.

Agree Mike. My ankles didn't like the traverse around Brim Fell nor the descent off The Old Man. They didn't particularly like the first grassy descent off White Pike either.

I've pushed them to the back of my mind and focused on the lovely smooth running from Swirl Howe round to White Pike (less a bit down to Goat's Hawse)!

Great race - went over on my ankle coming off Swirl How and found the rest of the contouring a nightmare. Also ended up with a massive blister on my big toe (same foot) which I think was due to trying to keep my ankle straight. Capped it off with cramp after getting my foot caught in the mud in the last field. Really enjoyed it though!!

Over Brim Fell is better than around it, having tried both routes. Over involves a little bit more up, but it is all lovely and smooth with no sideways tilt.

... and the distance is shorter too.
I reckon that you only save about 20m of climbing by going round Brim Fell.

Excellent photo. Are there others up on a site anywhere?

Great race, will definitely be up to do it again next year. The climb up Grey Friar was punishing but I loved the descent off the top towards Swirl How, but my favourite part was probably the descent off The Old Man. My legs had gone too much to enjoy the main descent from White Pike - maybe I can enjoy that next year when I have a bit more endurance in me.

I think I'd try the main path over Brim Fell next time. Might be a touch more climbing but the running must be faster on the easier ground and without the sideways tilt.
