But I do think dibbers are a sensible way forward for a lot of races.

But they don't really help you to "monitor runners around the course" - unless you're using the more expensive transmitting boxes.
If I was an RO using dibbers, I'd still want race numbers to back everything up.
Last time I did Wasdale they were using dibbers, numbers AND tallies!!

Numbers are also for tracking cheaters/other rule flouters.. it's why even in road marathons with chip times numbers are still used..

Just wondered if anyone ever goes out with a PLB (Personal Locator Beacon)?
I've had some involvement with them in a marine environment and only found out recently that the UK changed the law last year so that they could be used for land based activities.
They're not cheap, but at about the same price as a Suunto watch, could be a life-saver.

I'm going for a 9.35 km run tonight then for three or four 500 mils of beer. The legend that is PetShopPete is organising the run. He's very tall. Well over 1.90 metres. We usually run for 1.15 to 1.35 hours on the 0.28th of a week night. I'm so chuffed we live in a metric country. It makes life so much easier than it used to be :closed:
