Thread: Sensitive issue

    Sensitive issue

How do you stop your bum cheeks chafing on long (> 5 hours) runs? Its unpleasant and I'd prefer it not to happen anymore.

Is there some kind of cream that can be applied as a preventative measure?

Yes, this can be quite painful, particularly when you go in the shower and get hot water and salt from your sweat in it. OUCH

You can apply vaseline or Body Glide before your run which may help. I remember once when backbacking I got this. Applied some Sudocreme and it cured it almost instantly.

I've read somewhere that Lanacane is good, but I've never used it.

    Hope you find some relief

Bodyglide works very well, Lanacane is good as well .... dunno about Sudocreme, I thought this was more of an "after" treatment for sore skin but I think I've heard of others using it as a preventative measure. If you're into cycling, a bit of chamois cream does the trick too!

Sudocrem does the job for me too, although it's been a while since I needed to use it. Find it in the baby products at a supermarket or chemist. And try different shorts - they don't all rub the same.

I agree with the different shorts point. I also find it can be a time of year thing - in the winter wearing more stuff in wetter weather can make greasing up more crucial. Also for some reason nowadays I don't seem to suffer from chafage as much as I did in the days of yore. Not sure why

    Re: Sensitive issue

Cheers guys, I'll try bodyglide or sudocreme next time.

Stolly, I'm not sure if you mean that certain shorts chafe, or that less breathable shorts cause more skin/skin chafing. I'm running in fairly loose shorts with a liner and am getting cheek on cheek chafing.

I'm sorry for this thread and the horrors that have come to light, but I guess its a common problem
