JanSoLo Yes that was Splatcher(Andy) and I. You were clearly faster than us so shame about your map. Guess that was also why you and graham went wrong after the Burbage road crossing. You had less to climb back upto the control that the guy we met down on the railway line tho- shame he was so nippy or we could have called him back. I tried to keep up with you up the lane from Abney and sort of managed it to the stile into the fields and then lost you on the descent- although only a minute behind in the end so not too bad.
Yeah, it was the only bit of the route i hadn't reccyed and probably the only bit i should have lol,. The instructions were the main loss here..... not to worry i'll be back next year trying to break 6.... i was left to rely on my garmin gecko and once i got into the woods it lost signal. When it regained it the arrow said checkpoint 14 was .25 miles behind me....Doh!! :-)...a great run by you and saw you coming back in the field. I got a glance of another runner in front tho and wanted to chase him down (jon pemberton i think). I caught him about 800 meteres from the finish as he was cramping..

Great video, I kind of noticed that thing strapped to your head before the climb up to Hollins Cross and wondered what it was - glad I acted on my instincts and let you pass, no one wants to see a backside like a bag of ferrets
It must have been uncomfortable to carry?

I share a similar but slightly more forgiving view. It's a race and the idea is to get round as fast as possible. I will happily follow guys if I can keep up (with my map in hand!) or call anyone back if I know the route, but similarly I don't mind people trailing me. Normally the only downside to trailing me is at some point you'll need to have a good chin wag whether they're able to or not !
I think it all comes down to manners out on the trails...
Manners with Litter. I can't believe there were lots dropped - I never saw any. Perhaps this should be more rigorously stipulated in the race notes along with not crossing fences etc.
Manners with thanking others for guiding them through tricky bits.
Manners with thanking checkpoint marshalls
Manners with saying thanks when pedestrians step aside.
and in my opinion...
Manners in not telling others to feck off !!! (but thats just me)
Fantastic race in probably ideal conditions - I've never sweated so much though. 3 mins faster than last year. Always very tough though, but love it.
Bring on some really bad weather though please next year - I don't like this heat!
great video. Did I notice you took the direct route from upper Burbage, rather than the easy track under Burbage edge? Respect for that. Not many that passed us at the check point went that way. :thumbup:
Does anybody know where the On course photo's will be/are posted.......i've seen the ones on Bradda Dads but there was a photographer on Stanage edge etc
yes- see sports sunday . There is a link somewhere? perhaps ultras on facebook. but google sportssunday should do it ( he missed me as he was busy chatting/ giving directions)

Alan, I couldn't agree more.
I was wondering about such etiquette...I did the Calderdale Hike, knowing that I did not know the route, but had a map marked up (and the capacity to use it).
I fell in with a couple of other runners along the way, and was quite honest in that I declared my ignorance of the area, but that was well able to navigate my way around if needed. No-one seemed to mind, and if the boot was on the other foot, I would gladly guide someone around.
But we are a broad church... each to their own.
As for litter, it makes my blood boil!
