I'd reckon left of the tarn for Anniv Waltz, right of the tarn for Borrowdale.

I did do a bit more mucking about with alwaysinjured's route, and tried something along the lines (in bugger-all visibility) of, from Dale Head cairn

    400m at 150 degrees
    200m at 90 degrees
    50 degrees to the tarn

and yes, it was reasonably runnable.

I'd still favour the stright down route for the AW, but when I have trashed quads at Borrowdale I think this might be worth a think.

Id still be interested if any one else has got actual times to compare.

I mad a minute from dalehead to high spy on all around me, but theres the thing: people were overtaking me all the way up. My club mate who I showed the route made up 3 minutes on those around him (18 plays 21)

It would be interesting to see who else can compare - I heard several others tried it, but I am not sure who.

Anniversary Waltz was my first AM race and its not too bad from a navigational point of view. If the clag is down making sure you find the summit of Robinson can be a bit of a problem but otherwise not too many issues
