Has Joss Naylor been mentioned recently? He was half decent in his day wasn't he..?

Won Ennerdale once or twice along with a couple of other achievements!

('His day' being practically all his life as his Jubilee Run last year would've been beyond the abilities of most people in their prime!)

Yep, fantastic long-distance runner, but as Iain says about Nicky Spinks, the best ever has to be an all-rounder.

I think we have to accept that many of the better athletes will be tempted by the greater fame and money of other forms of racing.

Andi Jones could probably have a great year on the fells.

However, unless runners have a personal allegiance to fell running, there are too many other types of races that will clash with the champs somehow.

There are lots of decent fell runners who can't manage the champs. For example, it would be good to see the Addison boys target the champs. But I would say that, having included Tom in my relegated fantasy fell running team.

PS. I realise these people have lives as well, and aren't professional athletes motivated by our entertainment. Also, I consider myself solely a fell runner, but I have yet to do all the English champs races in one year.

And you've had nearly five years to talk him into knocking road-running on the head.

Dare I mention that it isn't impossible to be at top form for mountain, fell & road at the same time (I'm sure Kenny Stuart must've managed it). A certain person not mentioned thus far achieved the results below within the space of a few weeks in September 2004...

World Mountain Running Trophy - Women individual (8.46 km/862 m uphill)

1 ROTA GELPI Rosita ITA 50:27
    2 PICHRTOVA Anna CZE 50:37

    4 CONFORTOLA Antonella ITA 51:04
    5 BRINDLEY Tracey SCO 51:16
    6 DEMIDENKO Svetlana RUS 51:43

    19 A HART HUNTERS BOG TROTTERS M 03.01.18

I'll never forget the look on Mark Roberts' face looking over his shoulder on the run in to the finish in Broughton!

She also managed to squeeze in a win at the Scottish 10k champs in a pb in between the two races above.

Joss Naylor reckons that Rob Jebb would have made a mess of the Borrowdale record if he applied himself to this a few years ago.

It has to be Angela as the only fellrunner who ever had a word in the english language named after her.

In the 2007 waltz she smashed the ladies record, finished in the top few, (7th?) and a lot of top men were trying to work out where on the course they got "mudged"!
