Thanks for investigating! It's on the Home page of the Fellrunner, first item.

Would have been better if the person who put the post on the FRA homepage could shed a little light, as there is no name or contact attached.

OK, it would appear that the decision was taken in the light of extra paperwork required under the new FRA safety rules. The Race Organiser will be in touch with each and every team manager to clarify the situation and to make individual arrangements where necessary (ie. if the change is causing significant problems for a team).

Deciding to change the rules 13 days prior to the event is simply not acceptable! We have entered 6 teams, 3 of which have athletes aged 16 on Leg 3! To have to start finding replacements in such short notice & then start recceing legs is impossible! Why can't Halifax Harriers just send out the necessary parental consent forms now & then each athlete take it with them to registration???

Helen is spot on, particularly as the Parental Consent forms were being used last year for all juniors. It's only going to be max of 2 per team anyway. Hardly going to clog the system up!

Helen, I believe the RO has been in touch with you and all is fine now. To clarify for anyone else reading, this is a message from the RO:

"The decision to make the Calderdale Way Relay Race open to only 18 year old and above was taken some time ago because of rules requiring parental consent to be provided for each runner who is under the age of 18. As you can imagine , this is difficult to manage on the day given the nature of the event.

Due to this not being reflected on our original race entry information this has taken some teams by surprise. This was my error and I can only apologise for this.

If your team has been affected by this change could you please contact me with the specific details, we can then liaise with individual team managers as to how parental consent can be managed on the day, but we need to know the size of the problem first.

    Kind regards

    Richard Corney
    (Race Organiser)"

In effect, no problem that can't be managed to everyone's satisfaction.

Any issue, please contact [email protected]

Hopefully we are all now and can get on with recces and prep for the race.

    For information:
A parent's signature on entry forms for juniors has been required since 2006.
Parent consent forms have been in use since 2012.

However, as Richard has indicated, this can be difficult to administer at a point to point relay.

Indeed....and registration is chaotic enough on CWR with the numbers involved. All sorted now though. Speaking personally, and not on behalf of Halifax Harriers, I think it would be a great pity to lose the option for juniors to run leg 3 in the future. Perhaps some means of delivering parental consents in advance of the race might be considered in the future.
