juvenile kingfisher on pond learning to fish,dives from a good height with quite a splash,he then sat about 6 inch from the pond and did diving 'reps' about 1 every 3 minutes,then went back to the high dives.brilliant to watch.
then we had the return of a little grebe,the last one vanished along with the moorhens and coote when a mink appeared over a year ago.
to top of the day i was cycling up hollings hill(between shipley and the old harry ramsdens chip shop)there sat on a wall was a buzzard,minding its own business watching the world go by.
A young deer by the side of a track, a few miles from Hodder after yesterday's race. And then a partridge again sitting by the side of the track. Both fled as soon as I reached for my camera.
I trod on a squirrel while running. It was on the canal bank and although I kept thinking "any moment it will see me and run into the undergrowth" it didn't. But then when it did see me it ran ahead of me on the track. I had already decided to jump it, and my foot came down square on it. Luckily, as I looked over my shoulder it was running off the other way.
I don't think I'll ever stand on another live squirrel as long as I live. I wouldn't recommend it.
I hear they are quite tough anyway, not to eat but for withstanding impact. They can survive a fall at terminal velocity.

phew,though overdosed on my morning alpine.
I came very close to stepping on a rabbit yesterday, it was sat so still on the edge of a country lane that I only saw it at the last moment. Glancing back, it kind of quivered, so I think it was alive.
And later I saw a well-sized rabbit, the result of windfall apples in the garden, hopping around after a magpie.

Red deer beyond count, the hills were echoing with Stag bellowing at each other. they could be heard for miles. 6 ptarmigan and some birds of prey, too far off to get a clear ID
