South East Queensland is not the best known part of the world for decent beer! However most of the locals have not even heard of Fosters which is an Aussie joke created for pommies. We've found several local microbreweries so are not entirely bereft of tasty beer.
Tonight we had some stuff from the Scenic Rim Brewery which despite the less than original names are tasty!

I was in Manchester the other day and I noticed The Lower Turk's Head is open again (actually reopened in 2013) on Shudehill. The chances of a pub reopening after being shut down are quite slim but the Lower Turk's Head had been shut for over 20 years!! They have modernised the interior but the basic floor plan is the same. There used to be another Turk's Head further up Shudehill which is why this one was called the "Lower" one. Anyway that's the history but they had local Manchester ales (Holt's and Lees) on and 3 guest ales on as well. It still has the original distinctive tiles on the outside of the pub as well, no idea how it managed to survive intact all these years. They have opened a wine bar next door as part of the same enterprise and the rear room of the pub meets with the rear room of the wine bar.
I'm well pleased its open again and its in a good spot to finish a tour of the Northern quarter real ale emporiums before catching a train at Victoria or do it in reverse and end up at Piccadilly station![]()
Northern Monk - Chennai Export Porter at the Duck last night. Tasty
Poacher turned game-keeper
Northern Monk Refectory opens in Leeds at The Old Flax Store Holbeck on Friday 24th October all beers brewed on site.
Some fine ales last night in The Fox in Shipley, celebrating breaking up for a week. The highlight being a tremendous Founders Porter. If you haven't been & are ever passing through, call in, you won't be disappointed.
