Less of a grudge match and more about being happy to see the theory (of diversification) working well. It underpins much of what we do.

The grudge between myself and CL is long gone. Definitely have a long memory though!

It's interesting that the curves are very similar throughout the first half. Did gold only dip in value because market confidence grew and people then sold their gold?

Partly, but also because the gold bubble popped. Prices had been rising since 1999 and it had to end somewhere.

An asset is something that puts money in your pocket, a liability is something that takes money out of your pocket.

Shares pay dividends so are an asset, gold does not so could be considered a liability. Who wants to pay for a liability?

We spend an extortionate amount getting gold out of the ground only to spend more money putting it back in the ground (storage) again!

It's only a matter of time before a High St bank in the UK fails again and the government won't be able to bail it out.

I appreciate the combined net worth of the board is around 50p but once people realise that 97% of 'money' doesn't exist in a tangible paper form there will be a stampede to get cash out.

    But there won't be any.

I Don't want to spread alarm or anything.
But what if you've no cash in the bank, to get out of the bank, in the first place?

    Sell your gold.

Or rather wait until a few years after the next massive crash, then sell your gold.

I'm imagining a large weighty Prince Albert.

If it's weighty I'd assume it'd also be of a fair size, and might it get stuck in your zip when you've been for a pee though?
