Hmm, like the last couple of years then, snow / rain on the start line and then a gradual warming up to sunshine after about an hour.
Too true!
It must be like a desert out there by now! Does the race leave Horton by road until it joins up with the Penine way for the ascent of PYG?

Don't under-estimate the descent of Whernside either. You arrive at the top with your legs screaming and then all off a sudden hit a fantastic run off for around 800m, before the steep crappy bit.
This is where you see most signs of runners in bits, screaming with cramp, even more than on the run in to Horton.
Front end perhaps find it fine, but I try to ease my way off. A little walk at the top, get my legs back, have a little to eat and drink, and start running slowly.

Stolly I note you take a direct route up Whernside but the 3p website suggests this shouldn't be used for training because no right of way. Like you I run the 3p several times each year but go the long way round which makes it about 25 miles in total. Have you ever been challenged taking the race line? Apologies if I've got this wrong.
Murt I'm not in the race or anything to do with it and went up what is essentially open access land
