Cheers for that. I've never done the race either (entered last year but was injured)
I attempted a direct line up Whernside once but couldn't see an obvious way up without climbing walls etc. so bottled it....
Do you have a gpx file you'd be willing to share?

This is where you see most signs of runners in bits, screaming with cramp, even more than on the run in to Horton.
Front end perhaps find it fine, but I try to ease my way off. A little walk at the top, get my legs back, have a little to eat and drink, and start running slowly.
    Noted, thanks

There is a public footpath route up about 400m west of the race route. Same profile so gives you a feel.
Go under railway line and instead of crossing brook, carry on passed the farm on track then pick up path on right - stile in wall.
GR 751 800 (if I'm giving it you the right way round

It's open access on the OS map, so you have every right to be there. I definitely recce'd that bit as it's probably the only bit you could go wrong on if the clag came in.

You need to produce ID to collect your number as well. Drivers license or similar, in addition to kit check at registration.

Agreed, this has got me both years I've done it. Top of Whernside, as legs are well pumped, start running and bang: horrendous cramp. Not this year though, NOT THIS YEAR!
