Tremendous effort from Pat after some 'interesting' conditions overnight - great strength of character to keep going as long as he did. (Wish I'd been on Leg 4 - the weather was fantastic from Wasdale onwards!!)

We bumped into some Dutch guys a couple of times on Leg 3, so that was probably who you saw near Haycock. They seemed pretty laid back - never in much a rush. That must've been the drugs I suppose.

    Yes good effort Pat.

GeoffB, I am sure natural adrenalin is the only drug needed, one of Pennine's cloggier members may have words with you about national stereotypes.

Leg 4 was lovely as far as visibity was concerned but it was extreemly windy. Mark took a few photos, like to get a look at them.

I'm sure that "cloggier" type of whom you speak would take it in his stride. He might even agree with you :-)

Hi All, I'm a bit of a Forum newbie but thought i'd just say hello after a successful BGR at the weekend.

Rick and I started at midnight on Friday night. A lovely run across Section 1 with loads of other groups. Section 2 was a different story: Grim weather, thundery torrential downpours, poor viz and some scary lightning. Unfortunately Rick had to pull out just after Helvellyn. Section 3 was also very claggy and for me was the hardest section. I had some very 'low' moments during section 3, and we lost a fair bit of time. Fortunately I perked up a bit at Wasdale and managed to claw back the time on Section 4 and a fast finish on Section 5 got me in under 24 hours.

We got slightly lost finding Steeple, so we may have been the group that was referred to above as some kind walkers pointed us in the right direction (although we are not Dutch!). No excuse really, just not really paying attention after Red Pike and drifted off the correct line.

The main thing was that we got back to Moot Hall in 23:18. Awesome.

Thanks to this Forum for all the useful information I have gleaned during the BGR planning. And obviously to the amazing support team out on the hills that I couldn't have done it without.

    Cheers,
    Greg

Good to hear you made it, and our directions to Steeple helped. If you had gone all the way up Haycock it would have been a very close call. We were supporting Geoff Cox on his successful Joss Naylor Challenge. It was me who interrogated you and turned you around! I thought it was odd the way you had come and where you were heading!

Thanks Tom. I'm hoping we would have noticed our error before we got to haycock but thanks for pointing us in the right direction.
