I can imagine the section from Seatallan to Pillar being a nightmare in the clag

Very prescient. Was a great day out but loads of runners lost in the clag trying to find wind gap. A case of the blind leading the blind I think....
Just a quick note to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped out yesterday, especially the marshals / sweepers who had quite a bit of mankey weather to put up with.
Also thanks to the competitors for all turning up mostly in one piece at the finish & telling us if you had retired.
I have heard a few comments about differing routes, so far including visits to red pike, pillar (twice), esk pike & kirk fell... Anyone want to claim these?
Also, whoever was navigating using a gps / phone, you really shouldn't rely on that. Mostly because the marshals on pillar have been taking the piss since you went through. But also partly because if your gadget breaks or its batteries go flat you will be lost forever.
Results will be online by Tuesday hopefully after I've had chance to sort them.
What an epic day out on the fells it was yesterday.
My first Wasdale and to be honest I found it unbelievably tough,a bit out of my league to be honest, but managed to soldier on to the finish, battered and bruised. High points were the great grassy run across the top of the screes to Whin Rigg, the gentle run through Greendale, seeing Joss Naylor and friends at Greendale Bridge, finally summitting Pillar after the long drag from Seatallan, eventually reaching Scaffell Pike summit and knowing its all down hill from there, oh what a relief, and getting to the final checkpoint having a bit of a laugh with the marshals and photographer and been able to see the finish tent not too far away, oh the joy!
Low point for me was the tough slog up Gable, that totally bolloxed me, and couldve done without the low cloud, but overall a totally fantastic race, oh and the jelly legs coming down Lingmell, felt like they were buckling.
To take part in and complete this classic lakeland fell race is definatley up there with my greatest achievements, but with better preparation I know I can come back next year and give it a better go, I hope, well thats my plan anyway.
Good to see the smiling marshals on checkpoints, and really enjoyed the scran at the finish, and enjoyed a bit of banter with the ladies in the sarnie tent. I'm so pleased I managed to finish and not miss the cut-offs, after travelling 4hrs from Hull to be timed out would've really peeved me off.
Top day all round, cheers to everyone involved.

Good to read that Fozzy42.
Wasdale Fell Race (1972 onwards)
"This is the toughest fell race (run under AAA laws)".
Bill Smith (page 353 Stud Marks on the Summits).
Bill, as usual, was right.

It was my first Wasdale I had a brilliant time. I was one of the folks that started heading for Red Pike. I definitely found the descent off Whin Rigg tough but soon recovered and had an enjoyable race taking in the views as they appeared within the cloud.
Thanks to everyone involved for making the race happen. Can't wait to come back and have another go.
Also my first Wasdale. Huge thanks to all the organisers and marshalls (especially Yiannis at the stile, who radioed down to say we had finally turned up. Let's just say it was well part six/sevenish, by the time I finally came over that stile, having spent some time exploring the slopes of Lingmell in misty conditions!).
Amazing route. Found the slog up Seatallan long and a little dispiriting but by the time you get to Pillar it's hard not to enjoy yourself given you're amongst some of the best hills in Britain. Great Gable ascent was not quite as bad I thought it would be. Just need to think a bit about that route off Scafell Pike.
Overall, a super, well-organised race. Tougher than Jura I reckon.![]()
Results are up on the CFRA website.
Anyone else at Wasdale on Saturday?
Looking nervously at the mwis forecast.
Felt that I learnt a lot at Buttermere two weeks ago, in regard to pacing and particularly mental toughness. Hoping for an improved showing but not expecting to set the world alight. If I can get closer to 6 hours than 7 I will consider it progress.
At the front end, forgive my amateur punditry, but a quick glance at the list and its hard to see past the couple of Borrowdale runners for the win, but appears they only have the two runners at the moment, so maybe a chance for Dark Peak to pick up another "super long"?
Will be interesting to see how this race compares against Buttermere for difficulty. Buttermere was quite simply the hardest race I've done, even in quite ideal conditions it was a step up from an agonisingly hot Welsh 1000 metres.
