I did 20 miles yesterday along Howden, a bit frozen but sooooooo wet underfoot. really hard going.

I've just seen the forecast for Saturday's recces. It's become grim. We could do with bringing them forward to Friday and working on Saturday instead!

Hi Nick, good to bump in to you today.

I should have asked who the other forumites were but I had 3 clients with me and didn't want to leave them waiting for me.

Today was an interesting example of the longs vs 'culottes' debate - if i'd opted for the latter, upon going waist-deep i'd have had less to dry off - but might have lost my shoes as I wouldn't have been wearing gaiters! Decisions, decisions on the wardrobe front... I'm coming back as a woman next time!

Nice to see you as predicted earlier on the thread, IDP!

The only other folks I saw today were Machine Rippon, near Back Tor when they went passed us. Tim was charging on at the front with his usual purposeful running manner…… Simon, a lady runner I didn’t recognise and a dog in hot pursuit.

Sorry to have missed you at the kissing stones Ian……. might have been awkward anyway

Ian it was great to see you up there near the Wain Stones. The sun might have been out by then but I was still glad of my full waterproof body cover plus under layers and waterproof socks. I was toasty for most of the time, especially on the move, which wasn't fast by any stretch of the imagination. 18 miles took us 6 hours. It's tough up there. We couldn't find all the right lines in daylight so I dread to think what it'll be like in the dark. I think we need another recce to find all the paths we missed.

We got passed by two other groups - four plus a dog just after Cut Gate (I think I know where that checkpoint should be now) and three plus a dog shortly after that. We saw loads of mountain hares especially on the 1.5-mile off-path crossing, which turned out to be one of the easiest parts of the whole outing.

The only other forumite is Barny. I don't think Dan and Karl are on.

We even got to test out some kit. 4-man emergency bivvies are not that roomy for eating lunch and can be agony with a complaining knee that doesn't like being bent for long.
