Swallows have now appeared in Whitehaven area Cumbria. No sign of Sand Martins at St Bees yet.
Saw a Stoat running down a path - I got a full good view of it.

Difficult to see from the photo, but probably Collared Doves. Were they smaller than Wood Pigeons?

Yes there a little smaller than pigeons, they seem to be together and ive seen them a couple of days this week. Looks like they may be nesting nearby. Collared Doves is what i got via the RSPB site. Will bring the good camera in tomorrow and take a better pic, the above ones with my phone.

    Cheers Geoff hope your well

I saw a Common Lizard in the heather on Kinder on Monday.

Other than the odd slow worm, I've never seen a lizard in the wild in the UK. Quite the thrill.

I have only ever seen 2 lizards in the UK, both of them on the Kinder estate. The first one was at the start of the Snake Path below the pub and the second one ran across the road between Bowden bridge and the reservoir.

No doves today but 3 green finches followed by 3 chaffinchs (2 male/1 female) at work this morning.

I see them all the time on Kinder, Bleaklow, and Howden, get of the main path and be quiet.

Reckon I've seen over 10 this week on Navigation courses or guided walks. It doesn't take much sun to bring them out. it can be at least 10 degrees warmer in the heather so even on a supposed cold day they are about.
