Good post Luke. I read it with interest.

^ very thoughtful Luke and maybe a good time for everyone to consider using this thread to discuss depression and mental health topics, not specifics of people's lives best kept to private messages with friends not a public forum?

I didn't get a PM from you Andy indicating that you were offended by it????
Part of my treatment is that I have to bring problems in to the open to discuss them with friends and like minded people (My physicotherphest informs me)
Are you indicating that you disapprove Andy?
I am diagnosed as moderately depressed, receiving regular counselling and also take 40mg Citalopram (Max dosage)
All the best Andy, I hope you have a better day than I will !!!!

DT, thats an important reminder and does highlight a bit of a conundrum. Of course, a public forum should not contain speific personal issues but for someone struggling with depression, being able to talk about it openly is often helpful. Teasing out generic and specific can be difficult and its all to easy to include material that shouldn't be seen in public.
So its also a good time for everyone to salute the moderators who have a difficult job in guiding the forum along the right path. I salute you specifically for the light and empathetic touch you bring.
Keep going everybody!

Thanks Wheeze and well written.
Brett keeps an eye on me and I try to stay within the boundaries.
I know the sense of relief gotten from lashing out, i've done a lot of it myself. I used to get knocked about a bit as a kid, so i grew to knocking myself about as an adult aswell as lashing out verbally. I felt very dirty afterwards once i'd calmed down, anger turned to sorrow and pity, you just cycle up and down the lower energy levels (see map of consciousness). The cycle gets broken by raising your thinking out of the energy level of anger.
Forgiveness is extremely powerful as is compassion, these hold some of the highest potential for recovery and reconciliation. I'm so glad my dad knew i'd forgiven him for his flaws before he died. The power of forgiveness is immense, it holds an energy level of 350 compared to anger and hate at 150.
