The reason for this large Conservative majority is that people like you refused to accept the result of the democratic referendum result in 2016. Simples!

Labour held onto Coventry but their majorities (2 of the areas were around 8000 majorities last time I think) were almost completely wiped out.
Where I live (Warks North) was previously an 8000 Tory majority and that has more than doubled last night.
It's incredible how much the Tories have savaged Labour in their traditional heartlands. The constituency I live in is Leeds East and it is held by the witless Richard Burgon. It has always been a safe Labour seat. The Tories didn't manage to take it but they did reduce a near 13,000 majority to 5,500.
BoJo just has to not betray those traditional labour leaning voters now. I truly hope he doesn't
He made an interesting speech this morning, where he acknowledged the part played by former Labour voters and thanked them for "lending" their vote. He doubled down on his commitment to increase funding for the NHS and policing etc and he will obviously deliver Brexit.
It may well be that many of these voters will return to Labour in five years time but if they do let's hope there isn't still an anti-Semitic, terrorist supporting Marxist leading them. I know it won't be Corbyn but they have plenty more where he came from.
Although his speech was book-ended with typical lame boris-baffoonery (just why does he feel the need?) I was actually impressed with his humility and fulsome embracing of new voters whose hand may have wavered as they placed their cross. He made a commitment to repaying their vote. Lets see! He did, of course, kick of his first 100 days in office with a tour of the north promising to improve the trans pennine rail links and boost the northern powerhouse. Maybe voters remembered that?
