Did anyone else do the Open to Offas on Sat? My first LDWA event and i really enjoyed it. 30 miles around Moel Famau and the Clywdian Hills in great conditions - terrific.

I love the idea of being fed mid run! Think i'll do more of the LDWA events for that very reason!

Did they have any cold rice pudding and tinned peaches / fruit cocktail? Always standard at LDWA events

    Have fun.
    As if!

That is the one drawback of offas...there are NO SIGNS AT ALL.
Done it twice and got moderately lost once, and horribly lost this time!
The hideous orange and black things were a different event entirely...

Ive done THE keswick to barrow quite a few times, but it is run in MAY. Is that the same event you are thinking of?

It is not LDWA - it is organised and finishes in the vickers social club - big event with hundreds of people - originally a drunken dare between the shipyard and navy as to who was fitter. Since then it attracts a lot of corporate teams, such as rolls royce ( I ran for many times, whilst having nothing to do with the company!!!) bnfl, ukaea.

40 miles starting at thirlspot and finishing in barrow.
It is a lovely route but cruel! You do 26.5 miles, and then start the big climb on to kirby moor - feels like everest!!

I was going to the car to drop some stuff. As i came back the bloody thing had started!

I was lucky re navigation, i as with the guy who devised the original course! We had a splendid time, doing the 30 miler in about 6 and half hours. How much of that was sitting about at checkpoints talking about football and drinking tea i'm too embarassed to say!

LDWAs are a great way of doing low pressure long runs, without having to carry provisions for the winter. Some really good ones coming up too.

Open to offas probably ranks as the hardest to navigate without route knowledge - when I last did it the "burn out barn" where you take the first turn left was obvious. This time it was well overgrown. I overshot the turn and went a mile out of the way!!!

Most dont have as many stiles, twists and turns! So If you enjoyed that swiss T ... you will enjoy them all.

Pendles shadow this w/e is another good route.

Out of curiosity...what time did you get to the car park at the foot of moel famau?

I'm number 140 apparently, what are you? There are some rather quick guys entered
