That doesn't seem very generous!
Visibility good except in Hill Fog
It's a mass-participation event which attracts I think several thousand runners of massively varying abilities. I think the winning time last year was 68mins and only the top 5 got under 75mins (I readily admit I wouldn't get near this and would be very pleased with 85mins!)
I think it's just an attempt to boost the status of it at the front end.
£38 to enter though... strewth!!
I'd be pleased to break 90 minutes let alone 70. £38 does seem a bit steep - is that the going rate these days?
I think that's par for the course for a city half marathon, yes... just had a look at the Birmingham Half and that's £36...
But but but... you get a medal and "technical" t-shirt!!!
Anything over £1 a mile and I am out (unless the event is a bit special)

Mrs S does the odd road marathon/half. I'll have to give the credit card bill a bit more scrutiny in future.
I'm definitely in the £1/mile camp. Who needs another tech tee? I'd much rather have a chip butty or a bowl of soup any day.
Noel charges £2/mile for his lung-burster up Shutlingsloe; but I would imagine that many fell runners would consider that to be a bit special (I haven't done it myself).Originally Posted by JohnK

However on my visit I did purchase a print of foxgloves from a charity stall that is so stunning it takes pride of place among my Thomas Eakins and Atkinson Grimshaws (prints).
Now that made the drive from Ilkley worth while - and of course it reminds me of Noel every morning as I sip my espresso!
So £2? Pah: the price of fond memory is far above rubies.

We did the excellent Afoot in two dales 50 mile LDWA two years ago and it cost a few quid (I’ll check). We walked the 50 miles, plus to and from the camping AND iirc even got to say hello to Graham
It cost £20. The beans on toast at the checkpoint near the Green Dragon were worth a tenner alone; they were splendid. Ian Charters recommended the event way back on here. I’ve not seen him for years but he was right
