9m speed endurance today. An ACW loop of Thruscross starting and finishing at the Swinsty car park.

I got killed a bit by the inclines today. There was a strong headwind along the north bank of the reservoir which i fought a bit too much and went too deep on the last climb up to the plateau. It needs to be a bit more controlled than that really; needlessly dropping in and out of o2 deficit like that will probably result in you getting overtaken in a race. A guy who wanted me to slow down for him was annoyed when i didn't, and asked if i was in a hurry. Should have gone in the LSR Talons, it wasn't a good day for X Talons- very stodgy and wet.

36m on the bike today. Headed out north, but quickly ran into very heavy rain which i don't recall being forecast. Got a bit angry and headed back to Leeds and made up the miles circling round north Leeds suburbs, which was the only place it was dry, leaden skies in every direction. Found a USB drive which i picked up and brought home thinking it might contain government secrets or amateur pornography. It was kaput.

Carr Bridge Drive reps, 0.25m/110', 8 reps tonight.

My calves were getting sore tonight, but annoyingly, the left more than the right, meaning i'm underusing my right leg!!!!!!!!!!! It's just a neuro issue, i'll have to concentrate on firing off it and getting full extent out of it. Saw the same dog 3 times, it's owner was a very slow walker, it was interested in what the hell i was doing and did that thing that terriers often do where they tilt their heads on one side a bit. It's getting chilly when you stop running too.

Two Dales AM loop today, 7.8m/2250', foggy. I thought i was a bit faster up the second climb out of Hawkswick up the mine track. My left knee normally feels a bit shitty at the top of the last climb, but not today. I think my recovery program is making it track a bit better.

I could do with putting a route together that involves the descent of the Litton Birks Loop race. I need to become more familiar with it if i'm to become the fastest man in the world down this particular descent. I'd like to be able to take time out of just about anybody down it, just by knowing the best lines.

Tonight's dog encounter was most unusual. There I was driving hard up the sharp inclined section when I heard running behind me. A dog owner whose dog was up for a run too had taken flight in her wellies and set off behind me, getting dragged up the slope by her Tibetan Terrier. The interval section kicked in and the footsteps quickly faded away!

One more week and I should be managing ten of these, all on the bounce, no rests.

I didn't feel right today. Sometimes i find myself in fear of the pain that is to come and i think this weakens me. I don't really feel that i centred myself in the moment or in the task, i was apprehensive and slightly uncommitted. I rushed out of the house a bit and should have gone through a few stretches and some visualisation and focus exercises at home. The body cannot be expected to be in harmony if the mind is troubled, the two are energetically connected and will mirror each others states.

35m bike ride today. Forgot to bring any water or even a bottle, so i had to make the climb up to below Beamsley Beacon to find a stream to drink out of. That top road has good views over Wharfedale, and once again i failed to spot the elusive right of way that so many miss in the midweek Beacon fell race.

Had to take the 5k fartlek route last night due to time constraints; what a shit run. Fields and woods were sodden, woodland paths were just liquid in places. Trying to generate power and speed when you're skidding all over is impossible. Bit of a wasted session.

Mr Brightside, your unfortunate experience above is why i'm really keen on doing my "quality" sessions on road/track, or at worst grass. Obviously we have to train to run well over poor ground at speed, but when we want to run at a good hard and consistent pace, i think you get far more benefit on a trustworthy surface.
