The "Spring Fever" run last week doesn't seem to have done any serious damage. Yesterday was my second run since then; a moderately paced run over the shortest of my "standard" routes. The strange thing was that the time taken (under 39 minutes) was what I would these days regard as a fairly good time for that route even when fully fit.

As for my left shoe which came unstitched in last week's run: I remembered that a few years ago, one shoe from a pair Walshes had fallen apart while the other remained usable, so I kept the good shoe. So after last week's run I dug that remaining shoe out from the garage and, yes, it was a left shoe. So I still have a pair of usable Walshes.

Not a great session.... fatigued from heavy mileage in Yorkshire at the weekend, and still not quite 100% happy with my hip flexor, i was well below par.... in fact pulled out of the session with two reps still to go.
A very sensible decision, I doubt you'll regret it.

Yep, that's how I see it too. Best of luck

Only 3 of us last evening for our RATRun from the Packhorse Inn at Crowdecote. Rain threatened but never arrived, however there was bitterly cold NE wind which made me wish I'd worn gloves!

Initially across fields to Beggars Bridge, over the Dove and up to Longnor. Down into the Manifold valley and across very grassy fields to Frog Hole and then up a short stretch of tarmac to the Sheen Road. Back down into the Dove valley via Under Whittle and over the Dove on a set of Stepping Stones. Back to Crowdecote along more grassy fields. A shorter and steadier run than usual due to all three of us having tired legs but we found some new concession paths which is always nice.

5.5 miles, 615 feet in 49 minutes. Back in the busy Packhorse cheesy chips were washed down with Cavalier Coronation Blonde 4.2% from Little Critters Brewing Company of Sheffield and a very good Desert Storm 3.9% from Storm Brewing Co of Macclesfield.
Visibility good except in Hill Fog

Oh Anthony - you are so enslaved to contemporary shoe fashion...

I have been having one of these every morning for years. Have you tried them before? Some people cannot stomach them, literally. Assuming you are OK with them, your suggested timings sound ideal. You will almost certainly have pink urine after your race.

I've had them before, Mike, i've got a strong stomach anyway so i'll be ok. I had them before my PB leeds 10k in 2016, i've also had them before a 5k and ran slower than the week before.

No such performance enhancing vegetable products for me Mr B. However we had Asparagus followed by Gooseberry sponge for tea, all washed down with a few tins of Stella. See you in Cookridge tomorrow.

    65 miles this week.

Considering the tribulations this week and not doing any real decent running, save for a 6 mile "test run" yesterday... a decent haul of miles and a good performance at the inter-counties today.

Next week is likely to be similar, a case of recovering from today and getting fresh on the start line at Fairfield next saturday.... not expecting to do any hard training.

Also starting to piece together my initial plans for next year.... although i'll keep my powder dry on that for now.

Club night last night was on the track... however i elected to do the warmup and some drills and strides, then go out for a steady run.

No plans for hard running this week, need to get on the start line at Farifield in reasonable nick in order to have a shot at a pb.

9.5 miles for the evening, on top of 6 mils AM.
