On Saturday I had my first go at the Chicken Run and as it was a new course it would also be a new race for the other 224 entrants too.
Organised as a fund raiser for Hayfield School there were two route options, 8 miles and 1,620 feet and a shorter 6.5 miles.
From the start at the school a long zig-zag took us up onto Lantern Pike. Down to Rowarth and past The Little Mill pub, the prize sponsors, and then back up a lovely grassy ridge towards Cown Edge. A right just before the top and then a combination of rough bridleways and tarmac before another nice grassy section up the lower part of Lantern Pike. Steeply down into Little Hayfield, then up a short steep tarmac hill before a final run in to the finish back at the school.

Of the 183 in the long race Steve Vernon of Stockport Harriers was first back in 52:58. The first lady was Elinor Kirk, 18th O/A in 1:03:26. I got round in 41st place 1:11:25 and 2nd MV60.

A nice race with fantastic views over Kinder. A bit nippy waiting for the start but once underway perfect running conditions and my choice of Scott Supertrac RC's was spot on for the dry conditions.

Sounds like a good race, LB. I've never done this one - next year perhaps.

I enjoyed the new route through the picturesque, off-the-beaten-track Rowarth. It comes out at 8.4 miles. I just squeaked a sub-1:30 finish, which I had to be pleased with after running Woodbank parkrun beforehand. (I was never as fast as you are, LB.)
    I took pictures as usual.

Wind, Hail, Sun and Rain on today's Chicken Run. It was one of those days when choosing what to wear was a dilemma and after much taking of tops on and off I went for an old Helly Hansen Lifa vest under my Outdoor Research Ferrosi Windshirt, which is one of the best and most versatile bits of kit I possess. Overall the combination worked well, other than on one sheltered climb when the sun came out and I was a touch warm for 4 or 5 minutes.

The full results are not out yet and, oddly, no presentations. I was a few seconds slower than 2 years ago but 1st M60. Fellow RATRunners did well with Jim Bligh 3rd o/a and Joanne Mosley 1st Lady. It was also good to see Jake Fearn from Buxton AC back on it and finishing 2nd o/a.

I saw BritNick from this parish finishing but not to speak to. As I write this my face is on fire from a combination of sun/wind burn.

My legs were still a bit tired today from Flower Scar so I will be taking it easy until Lads Leap in a fortnight.
