Y Llew Coch (The Red Lion) in Dinas Mawddwy Is a very fine watering hole. Speaking to the landlady last time I was in, she said that times had been hard, but now they get lots of trade from the strange folk that Photograph the planes on the Mach Loop.
I think the Star may still offer B&B. Whilst running in the local hills recently I bumped into a walker on the Cambrian way who said he had stayed there.
Three excellent pubs of character, all ideal for the revolving masters lounge.
Saturday night old friend (and past fell runner) Rob Woodall stayed over, we had a most enjoyable night in the lounge as he updated us on his latest travels and peaks. Just back from Patagonia area bagging various tops. I think he is currently working through the world 1500m prominence peaks - or something like that, lying second on the world list.
Hard to keep up with him, Philippines next. Anyway, he was having a relaxing weekend driving about south wales looking for and digging up buried trig points, using some super accurate gps gadget.
Great knowing there are still some eccentric out there and most find their way into the Masters Lounge.
I suspect Llani is thinking I meant the Star in Dylife. But the Star I mean is in Talybont on Usk, home to scoundrels who have been terrorising Bannau Brycheiniog......there are some tales to tell about that venue!

Indeed there was Travs....indeed there was! The Pudding and Bramble club was very much full of rascals and scoundrels with the imp-in-chief MR G Pinky O'Devine. Their exploits gave me so much material for my Gripping Yarns cartoon strip!
Good grief, there was a massive power cut just now. Everything went black, beer pumps cut out, juke box stopped playing and all the clocks stopped. Thought the universe had ground to a halt....but the lights are back on now.
But for how long??
Better grab the best of the seven inchers out of the jukebox before the blazers from the FRA asset strip the place. It'll all end up in the hands of upcyclers!
