I also didn’t get in, and I'm trying not to be bitter.
I think 'feeding frenzy' is an astute summing up of the situation, and I really hope that the first ten from 2007 (men and women), plus the age category winners, are guaranteed a place for 2008, or the whole thing will be a bit meaningless.
Also I just hope things return to normal next year and that probably includes no on line entry.

The entry details seem to say that there is unlimited substitution, as long as this is done through the system. I suspect that there will be a lot of movement just before the actual race.

It's a shame that there was no indication ,that I could find, for a limit.

Also, I think it is a bit odd for entries to open before the FRA Calendar has even been sent out. It's not like there wasn't enough time to take entries from say 15th January, and advertise the fact.

I am only entered because I spotted this thread.

Well if they don't Scoffer (6th in 2007) won't get in and he is on the Champs Committee that picked it for an English counter and wrote the appeal on page 143 of The Fellrunner!

Top 10 Men from 2007 are definitely guaranteed an entry provided they take it up by the official deadline in March. I have had that confirmed by 2 of those concerned.

Aye, same here. I don't log on to the forum everyday so that was a stroke of luck really. Bummer to those who wanted to enter and were hanging until next year.

You've got to be quick off the mark! Just like then online entry for Edale last year...

I've been waiting to enter this race for the last 2 years, since I started fell running, Ive been looking to stretch myself further and further and ultimately had my eye on this race, having heard lots of great stories of achievement from an old fell running family member.
As soon as I had made my mind up that next year was gonna be the one, I immediately started investigating the application process only to learn about the World Mountain Marathon status. I thought there would be no chance of getting in and decided it wouldn't be without a fight. I checked the 3 peaks web page every day (starting 2 days before nov. just in case) and couldn't believe my luck when I was the 15th person to register the other morning.
Obviously, I am new to the whole fell scene and don't know how things 'used' to work but I'm also beginning to feel somewhat guilty about being 'in', as if I've kept someone else out of 'their' race.
I appologise to all who are offended by my presence as I know I won't break any records in any categories or add to my tally of marathons... I'm just there to run.

Like Mudlugger - I have fancied this since I started running in 2003. Built up with Roads, XC and some smaller fells and did my qualifying with Sedbergh & Chipping - so chuffed to get in.
But I feel gutted for some of these guys that have been running year after year who may now miss.
I would recommend they write in. Under the permit rules for roads now you can take entries over the permit limit, anticipating a drop out.
Not sure how this is set up - or if they are limited by landowners. But I would bet if the max entry is 750, they could accept 800 easily and still have at least 10% drop out.
I hopefully won't be a one race wonder though. I hope to nmake it an annual event. Time will tell.

But that's why almost all of us have entered.

There are a few who will be up for the prizes, but for most of us it's about the taking part, and having a go at beating the runner in front, plus the satisfaction in succeeding in a very tough challenge, and maybe getting a few championship points. Just make sure you're fit enough to achieve the cut-off times. Have a great run, and enjoy the experience and the camaraderie.

Pissed off or what, this was going to be one of my main targets, have checked website everyday including last thing sunday night, have just got back from work have left home at 5.00am yesterday and the bloody thing is full. What about people who don't have computers? Is there a quota for postal entries?
