To achieve the anabolic and performance enhancing effects of salbutamol you'd have to inject it, or go absolutely bonkers with your inhaler. In that case your blood concentration would exceed the limit and you'd fail the drug test.
My Wife ia an ambulance technician and she has to treat some patients with salbutamol. At the normal doses, some patients hands shake, showing the power of this drug at recommended levels. She isn't permitted to overdose them.As Daz H has implied, endurance athletes are abusing this drug and still testing within the permitted levels.

Another consideration is the cumulative effect of all those doses of drug over say a period of 15-20 years. It's bound to affect the chemistry of the body.

In the 1970s a drug called Clenbuterol was developed for asthmatic animals. The scientists observed the animals, and realised something was happening to them aside from being able to breath more freely. They were gaining weight, muscular weight! When these animals were tested, they showed an increase in bulk of 20%, and a loss of large quantities of fat.

Athletes soon cottoned on and started using clenbuterol. They found that taking big doses didn't necessarilly work any better than small doses. In fact only 20mcg(1/1000 of a gram)a day caused significant muscle growth in only 2 weeks.Yet this drug was supposed to be for asthma, and the side effects were unexpected.Clenbuterol is in the same group of drugs as Salbutamol(beta2 agonist).

Paula's body chemistry has been changed through the use of this drug.Ok she trains hard and also has strong will, BUT I believe its boosted her performance.

Additionally athletes who take drugs, don't feel the same degree of discomfort as the rest of us(it becomes easier).

The question is, what do we expect from our fellow competitors, when we stand on the starting line?

Fine tremor is a well-known side effect of salbutamol. But it's not exactly performance enhancing is it?
The anabolic effects of clenbuterol are also well known.
    That's why it's banned.

Hang on! Are we actually saying that being asthmatic is an unfair advantage.

Well, some of us mean that but others are saying that if you take medication for a diagnosed condition, that gives you an unfair advantage.

I personally think the only track WRs that are drugs assisted are the women's ones for 800 and under and 10,000m. The men's distance records have risen fairly evenly through the decades. I think their increase is just due to natural progressions in training and nutrition etc. Regardless of what country an athlete is from, if they are competing at the top level they will be subjected to a lot of tests.

Guick: being asthmatic isn't an unfair advantage. My position is, salbutamol improves athletic performance, regardless of whether one is asthmatic or not.some formites disagree with me.Read all the previous threads.
