..pupils in a chemistry lesson are carrying out an experiment involving dropping Mentos mints into a large plastic bottle of cola.

The result is a huge explosion with fizzy drink rocketing into the sky.

Limping and sore is good. It means your legs are still attached, at least.

• Despite feet feeling fine all the way round, I've got 3 damaged toes (the same ones as for the London marathon) - nothing a good needle can't sort out though to reduce the pressure.
• Ankles are very bruised, scratched and feel swollen.
• Quads are pretty solid, but then again they were from about 20 miles at Rother Valley country park.
• Lots of nasty chafing and grazing in the "underpant" area. Never had this before: must be due to the complete soaking
• no residual problems from the chest infection, thankfully (I'd have never lived it down, otherwise).

Otherwise - a refreshing lack of muscle or joint problems.

It might take a good few days to get the running shoes back out though.

Next time, I think I might
- start slower
- leave some savoury at the halfway (I suffered with cramp, until I blagged some salted crisps from a fellow competitor at the Woodsetts CP)
- get some longer training runs in
- read the map a little more actively, rather than following blindly. Cost me 2 odd extra miles and some time between Catcliffe and Treeton
- print the map out in the week before the event -there were late changes and lots of different versions in evidence. Not the organisers' fault: we needed lots of diversions to avoid the flooding
- bring a CamelBak. Empty: not for drinking, but as a buoyancy aid on the wetter sections

I always find that the second day after this kind of event is the stiffest. Legs start to ease up on day 3 and 4.

Cheers, she's happy with herself, and I think going for a swim today to try and get things moving again. She was very stiff yesterday but was moving slightly freer today, I've just been laughing at her struggling even trying to pick the dogs toys of the floor :-)

Well done all. From my preconceptions of Rotherham I was extrememly surprised by how pleasant the route was. Well organised event and one that I'd certainly consider doing again, preferably in better conditions. Did anyone else get chased by the big cows just after the viaduct?

I'm sure they started us 5seconds past 7am.

Not had chance to get on before now - little thing called post long run tiredness and work got in the way!!

Well what can I say?? Actually thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing - no honest!

I'd like to say a HUGE thanks to Ian (darkpeak) SOOOOOO nice to see someone on route massive thanks for the support and food!!

The weather as we now all know was bloomin shockin and putting up with that alone for just under 11 hours was enough but those DAMN fields!!! My god if I ever see a muddy slippy sludgy field again it'll be too soon!! Granted road shoes don't help but after Shirley ate the trail shoes I was left with little option and was glad of the support really for all the long tarmac stretches.

Only really lost the will to live at 50 miles - those extra 2 I think pushed the 3 of us over the edge!!

Fantastic day though - went for a lovely walk yesterday which helped the legs and a swim last night, and strangley enough walking round work all day in 3 inch heels has worked wonders so fella's if you want a tip for helping sore calves recover get yourselves a pair of stiletto's!!

I'd do it again any way in fact must go and trawel the utlra threads some more.........................................
