As a proponent of downhill racing (see downhill races thread in general issues) I find this race both fantastic and terrifying!!
Having descended Tryfan this way a couple of times I can hardly imagine a mass start (!!) race down it... one trip and I'd be living up to my forum name in a most unfortunate way.
The record time seems quite fantastic!

I think the race route is the route we (if you are who I think you are) took on Nicky Spinks's Paddy Buckley. On mine I carried on directly almost to Ogwen Cottage.
re the mass start, I reckon you'll get less than 5 serious racers as it's quite a 'niche' market, I reckon a few climbers would be interesting in taking part though.

No idea, it was quite a while ago, and it was an informal race back then. I reckon a good 20 years ago. Mikes 60 this year and I think the race was when he was in his younger years.

That reminds me of something Ronald Turnbull wrote in his book "The Welsh Three Thousand Foot Challenges."
He wrote, "Hillrunners - real hillrunners - have descended Tryfan to the lakeside in seven [sic] minutes dead, or, even harder to credit, in seven minutes still alive."

Depending on where I am etc. throughout the summer hols. I may try and come along and take photos of this event if I don't take part. Yet to do a downhill race. I agree with Trundler we need more of these races even if this one does sound a wee bit on the lethal side compared to other recent events.

This was the stand out race in the WFRA calendar for me, sounds even more mental now I know a bit more about it. I'll be there if I can get the time off work (shouldn't be a problem).
