Hi BG,
Think its the Wensleydale sheet I am sure it mentions it on the website. It's definitely worth reccying the alternative route round Fleet moss, Ian DP picked me up here last year and he really helped me out, cheers Ian by the way. Also from Park Rash you will most likely be in the dark so this section would be worth a look, conditions where pretty grim last year and I think I was hallucinating a bit by this point !
I wore tracksters on the night stage last year and they were acceptable at kit check, they were ideal as well.
With regard to training - I got my distance up to 30-40 miles on the fells and about 60 - 70 miles a week, fell and road. I ran my long fell runs every other weekend and did quite a bit of cycling to increase my fitness, but reduce the impact on my knees. I did the three peaks as a warm up run 10 days before the event and to practice eating on the run and carrying the gear to get a feel for how I felt. On the event you just have to run your own race at your pace, keep eating and moving, don't stop for long at checkpoints and keep warm.
Regards
Karl
If you don't know the area I would carry the OS OL 2 & 30
It might be two maps but you will have a better idea what awaits you![]()
The 1:50,000 pink Wensledale does cover the route but misses out a lot of detail just where you need it when it's dark!!
Hi Don
yes I remember you are you going again?
Thanks guys - I'll order maps and no doubt be looking for more advice on routes etc once I have studied the maps - does anyone have a list of all the checkpoint grid refs?
BG
OS sheet references a little different here - just want to check that I'm ordering the right maps?? Thanks

Many thanks.
Just checking the GR for the last bit of the Fellsman and just wanted to check I am going in the right direction.
SD 965 753 - Top Mere
Is this where the 2 bridleways meet near Sandy Gate and not actually at top mere gate which is nearly 1km to the east?
SD 987 757 - Park Rash
Is this the road crossing at Tor Dike and not anywhere near Park Rash which according to my reckoning is nearer SD978 741
Going to run the two ridges from Kettlewell to Cray then back along the Fellsman route to Great Whernside and back down to Kettlewell tomorrow so wanted to ensure that I had it right as the descriptions seem odd based on the GR
edit: seen this on the fellsman http://www.fellsman.org.uk/doku.php?...oint_locations
So just to check that this is where the actual CP's are

Top Mere that is correct, last year this was the hardest cp for us to find, in our group we had 2 good navigators myself and Robin Price (well know fellsman) and we both said we were there. it was very foggy, raining hard and very dark but no sign of the CP so we shouted. the CP was 5 m away and the guys were asleep in a tent with no light on![]()
Park Rash is as you say by Tor Dike/Road and takes the obvious path up Grt whernside
The way off Buckden Pike isn't as obvious as it is on the map in the dark and in fog. Keep a keen eye and memorise it well.
Have a good run Tony
Cheers Ian, will do![]()
Should be a nice run out before the bad weather kicks in. Rather be doing Kinder Trial though but was too slow with entry
