Big day today in the North East... gonna be emotional again
one of the best days ever yesterday at the vic, the atmosphere and support was powerful, very emotional day!!! hope we can keep it up....Hartlepool United, we never say die...
Hartlepool United, we never say die...
Nope, just hang that monkey.
What's going on at Leeds? Assistant coach Steve Thompson suspended for the rest of the season without manager Neil Redfearn being told about it. According to press reports, Redfearn also told not to pick top scorer Antenucci because if he scores one more goal it will trigger a bonus clause in his contract. Seems such a well run club:D:D
Just got back from an Easter trip to Bury. We were absolute shite for 80 minutes then 2 goals in the last ten minutes and that's all forgotten, a happy trip home. As Greavesy used to say, it's a funny old game
Those are the days which make being a proper football supporter worthwhile. For all of the dire defeats and performances on rainy Tuesday nights in Rotherham, we get our gems where we fight back from two down for a last minute winner etc. A friend up here is an Exeter fan and they, of course, had a cracker of a result against Luton on Friday.
As for my lot, another 0-0 yesterday means that, after being talked about as outside play-off contenders all season, we now hover 2 points above relegation, haven't scored in (I worked it out!) 408 minutes and have a second striker (who admittedly plays behind the main striker, but even so) who last scored in November but is, apparently, too important to drop.
Spot on mate, one of my favourite recent matches is Plymouth away in November 2011. 1-0 down after 90 minutes of a pretty dire match and our thoughts turned towards the 320 mile trip home then a Nick Fenton equaliser in the 4th minute of injury time and the few of us who had made the trip were going mental. The armchair Premier League fans could never understand the feeling you get at moments like that
Dead right there m8
Morecombe messed up my coupon ;P Didn't see that coming Bury had been in fine form!
Pools were really unlucky to get beat yesterday, Southend were the best team ive seen at the vic this season, but we matched them just couldn't find the net :/ Luckily those below us suffered similar fates :)
Away trip to York this Saturday, we sold our 2500 allocation within a day or two, going to be buzzing, I know plenty who have tickets for the home end too :-0 Cant wait :)
York holds fond memories for me Rev, it was my first big away trip as a young lad when Morecambe, then in the old Lancashire Combination drew 0-0 at York in the FA Cup 1st round eventually going down in a second replay at Maine Road. It was 40 years before I returned for another 0-0 in the Conference play offs in our promotion year
York's always a cracking trip. Lovely town and a proper old football ground. I have particularly fond and clear memories of a 1-0 away win. Our winner was scored by Andy Watson, into the goal in front of us. He curled a shot from around 25 yards into the top corner and (I have the youtube evidence to prove this) I was the first person in the Walsall end to realise it was going in. You clearly see me jump up to celebrate a second before the rest of our end :-)
Oops, just checked it out....it was 2-1 and it's lovely how memory plays tricks - that 25 yarder was more like 15 yards! Still a cracker of a goal though!
I've only just realised that my avatar is then captain, now manager Jim Bentley after our Conference play off win against York in 2007. I'm pretty sure that forumite Mr Ricepudding is a York fan.
I guess Wolves manager Kenny Jackett is having a couple of days off to go to Aintree because he was sat on the next table to us in a restaurant near Lime Street station last night, then him and his missus (at least I hope it was his missus) walked down to the Empire to see Dirty Dancing
To my shame, I've never gone along to Claggan Park to watch a game yet. I keep meaning to, but with a 1 year-old to look after, time is in short supply! I almost went on Wednesday and decided I couldn't be bothered with the 30 minute drive....shame, as it was what the Lochaber News called a "4-4 thriller". I'll get there at some point. When my lad was young, as well as watching Walsall, we used to follow non-league Bridgnorth and head off to tiny grounds around the Midlands. If my wee girl fancies it, we might end up doing the same with the Highland League.
Kenny Jackett deserves a day or two off. As much as I dislike the Dingles, he's done a fantastic job at the Custard Factory (despite their so-callled supporters calling for him to be sacked earlier in the season!) and have every chance of getting in the play-offs.

Not my idea of fun but Kenny deserves a little R & R having got WW back into a play-off place.
I watched Wolves when they were the greatest football team in the world (OK OK that is a few years ago now) and given half a chance I'll tell you how I sold the 1939 Wolves v Arsenal programme (it was my father's!) for £320 on ebay.
i s: horses, a show
Good game to watch this afternoon was the Manchester derby.
utd on to with city only playing in short bursts.
Will be looking for a new manager in the not too distance future.
good luck to sporting khalsa tomorrow average crowd 50
Ha ha ha premier league is officially crap.
Losing to championship opposition is very poor.
England internationals missing penalties does not fill me with confidence either.
Vastly over hyped and paid springs to mind.
In my experience anything involving terms like 'focus groups' and 'corporate re branding' usually ends up in a balls up and here's the proof. From next season the Football League will become the English Football League, not sure where that leaves Cardiff, Newport and Swansea if they got relegated. Good to see that lower league football doesn't have any major problems so the powers that be can concentrate on the important issues

Immaculate 1 minutes silence at tonight friendly between England and France.
I might have fallen out of love with playing the game but this is one thing football can usually deliver. Terrific post match showing of solidarity
I see Liverpool had Flanagan & Allen playing last night. I know they got through to the final but they were hardly strollin'. At least they are through to Wembley where they can play underneath the arches!
We were shocking, Swoop! To be fair they won with a goal that was offside and penalties is the lottery it always has been...the atmosphere was decent for once, it's gone pretty dull at Anfield lately but was glad to be part of another good night on the Kop last night
Classic Swoopism. We've missed you Colin!
I think I've only been to Anfield 5 or 6 times since the Premier League/all seater stadiums came into being but sadly I'm old enough to have been on the Kop in the Seventies, nights like St Etienne (European Cup quarter final) and Bruges (UEFA cup final first leg), can't see the atmosphere at any all seater stadiums matching those nights
Atmosphere has been pretty dull at places like Anfield and Old Trafford for many years now, too many out of towners sitting on plastic seats waiting for "their" team to hand out a drubbing so they can ponce about in replica shirts taking the piss out of supporters of so called lesser clubs !
Grounds I consider to have a good atmosphere from the home side:
Wolves
West Brom
Norwich
Cardiff (not been to their new ground yet though)
Everton
Port Vale on a good day can be loud. The whole area is like how football used to be, I do like it there.
Nottm Forest
Derby
Always been disappointed by Leeds, Sheff Utd and Birmingham, given their hostile reputations. Old Trafford predictably is awful.
Well anyone who has followed the many downs and occasional ups of what 60 years ago was arguably the best football team in Europe know that people don't go to Molineux for the prawn sandwiches. :D
Would agree Travs of the current PL Everton and West Brom def 2 of the better atmospheres, Derby seem to be one of the few that have managed to maintain some of the atmosphere of the old ground, suspect this is more to do with tha fans than the staadium though
