I spoke to Dalsiside and Manhar at the finish and they had both done very well. Cracking time Daleside.;) :)
Poor old Brett looked to be suffering.
Well done everyone:)

Yep, I got it in both calves as I started to run after the CP on Whernside. Took until the steep descent to run it off then I was OK. Never usually suffer on other AL's but got it there and it happened at same place the last time I did it a couple of years ago. Must be due to using a completely new set of muscle groups as you come over the top and those that you've been using on the ascent just cramp up.
I got cramp on the top of Whernside too. I reckon it's to do with the long fast! flat run, before going to the big climb on Whernside and then moving back to the decending muscles, most of the other long races tend to be up or down with no long flat sections. I didn't get cramp on the 15 trigs and only get them once on the H H
Hot dog and millipede gave me a big smile with their big bell. you could hear it from a far.
I passed Dennis going under the bridge just before the finish.
JJ were you on the bridge on the right just after the crown, if so I think I saw you, we went passed so quick and I was looking for a vision with a whip:D
Ian
Boy that was hard, but feels great now. PB by 17 mins, 4:21 which was 1 min inside by goal so well pleased. Nice to Manhar again and IanDP.
CRamped up too on Whernside and on Inglebugger, strange inner thigh cramo, never had that before !!!
Going to be fun next year when they say there could be 800 runners !!!
Thanks go to the marshalls and organiser for a great day.:D
Tough day out today - was going OK till the descent from Ingleboro which always gets me. I think I walked further than I ran. IanDarkPeaker just ran off, and had a battle to keep Flatfoot just behind - another half a mile and he would have got me. Was hoping for 4.30, but will have to be happy with 4.36 - if only I was 16 yrs younger!!
Well done everyone who took part today. There were so many outstanding performances and it was great to meet loads of faces behind the forums. I take my cycling helmet off to you all.
Even got to bike down a track that your not normally allowed to...well it was a special occasion. (That 3ft drop through the wall near the finish was a bit of a surprise though:eek: )
Thanks Milli for putting up with the incessant ringing and doing a sterling job handing out a seemingly endless supply of jelly babies. Hope you've manged to thaw out!
Had a great day out and I hope your all basking in the glory of your performances or maybe just basking in a hot bath
Yes Clodhopper I did hear the phone. I thought you had an iPod and some speakers setup to keep everyone entertained..I was thinking..now that's a team player:D
I've just spent ages writing a long summary of the day for me but the message was lost in the ether somewhere as it was obviously too long. so i'll just put my time and declare that i am very pleased and actually astounded by it! Everthing just seemed to fall into place today -
4:56 :) :)
Well done everybody. Sounds like it was pretty attritional in the heat, lots of cramp, but some really good times. And well done Ds, terrific stuff, good prep for the Dragons Back finale, you will be cruising!! Mind you, forgot to tell you about the bit with tussocks the size of houses:eek:
I enjoyed the cowbell on Inglegit - thanks for that. Nice to get a pb by 25 mins too, knackered but home safe in 3:53.
Would have been quicker but got stitch at Sulber Nick - very frustrating to have to walk it off! No cramp though - which was a relief.
Well done to all that ran, and thanks to the organisers - great show!
What a brilliant day!! Did 4:49. I'm happy with it as my first attempt, but I did expect better from myself. Felt OK doing the ascents (even Whernside) but my quads were screaming on the descents.
Big thanks to the organisers, marshals and spectators for the support on the way around. I'll be back
What a great day!! Superb organisation, wonderful views, great support (Particularly the cowbells - it was Crinkle Crags all over again -, oh and the penny whistle, or did I just imagine that??).
Finished in 4.53 - definitely went too fast down PYG (like I was doing some kind of short 5 miler or something) but it was such a nice descent!!
Was over-worried re cut offs. In the end I got to Ribblehead and Hill Inn with about 15 mins to spare at each, but since I'd been obsessing about doing so I had a mini-crisis of confidence just after Hill Inn when there was some bouts of walking. Vaguely thought about joining a chap sat in the minibus but thankfully saw that that would be utter madness!
Whernside definitely the most difficult, I think parlty because of the bog at the bottom. Lovely, inspiring finish. Definitely back next year.:) Now, do I do Borrowdale??:o
Another 20 yards and I would have got you:) Good run AR. I was bang on schedule for a 4:30 finish at the top of Ingleborough but decided to take a header just before the first ladder stile on the run off. Cut knee and hip and winded me for a minute.
Great day out and thanks to all those supporting and marshalling. To Milli and Hot Dog for encouragement on the last climb. Also nice to see ChesterBlue - aren't you glad you got that qualifying race in:D
You didn't imagine the penny whistle unless you were having the same hallucinations as me. It took me a whole 44 minutes up Inglebugger about 10 mins slower than intended I think I was hallucinating at that point
Was going well till half a mile past the Hill Inn and then the dreaded cramp started, always get it bad on this race, not so much my calves its always my inner thighs. Will have to do some research into it,because it ruins every Three Peaks race I do
Well done to Daleside who just pipped me at the post ! lulling me into a false sense of security with all this stuff about not meeting cut off times.
Well done Manhar too, will have to introduce myself next time I see you.
yes the lady with what i thought was a recorder was great - i was going to shout - 'has your hubby chucked you out the house to practice that thing' and thought maybe that would be a bit mean as probably every other second runner had said it to her! so i just gave her a wave -
i had been really worried about the cutoffs and had a really low point as i got into hill inn with ten mins to spare as it suddenly struck me i was going to have to finish the thing, i felt overwhelmed with what i had done and what still had to be done and felt like crying and saying 'I cant do it'! I sat down for a min with our coach who just said get on with it lass - catch em up! so i trotted along reaching a walking manhar and felt better that i had encouraged him to trot along with me.
just seen your past dave - (leeds rhino) - I'm sorry about pipping you on the post - but you seemed to spend an awful long time on the stile! I'm off to get a new car now but may be on for pint later - text me your plans!
Well done to all forumites some great times there for the people I know compared to last year.
Also some smashing first time runs.
Jamie
me too, though mine started (inner thighs) coming of Ing' was the first 3peaks for me, but i suffered like this at borrowdale last year, and it really P****S me off....dont know whether its the heat (being de-hydrated) or the time on the feet, as i can feel myself slowing after 2.5 hours, and then the cramps start after around 3 hours. though i was fine during the edale skyline, so im putting my condition down to hydration :mad::mad:
what is it with the 3 Peaks and inner thigh cramp. I too have suffered with this on the last 3 attempts. Never had it on other races ! I made sure I took plenty of fluid with me this year and more importantly made sure I drank it but still got it coming off Inglebugger. Any thoughts on the fact that some of the climbs on the Peaks are so steep that you have to bend your legs more than 90 degrees and then push up through to straighten them (well you have to with my little legs anyway). !! Not many races I have done before have that same sort of climb involved, even Borrowdale !!
i made it round but had really dissapointing run and finish time 4.44, really struggled with the heat and found it hard to eat anything, which i imagined wont off helped. never suffered with cramp as such but did coming off whernside all the way back. drank plenty of water and filled up at a couple of streams (maybe it was the cloudy water, knew I shouldnt have drank it)
luckily someone was handing out jelly babies at top iof ingleborough, which helped a bit
results out yet anyone know?
Not yet but they'll be here when they are.
I didn't find it hot at all yesterday although my shoulders are a bit sunburnt. I set off at a reasonable pace and was ok as far as Whernside but then my legs fell off on the descent and I started cramping up when I hit the road at the bottom. I got to the Hill Inn in about 2:50, had some food and drink and walked/jogged for about another half a mile but the cramp was getting worse so I turned back. Then I met Brett and FITC so had another brief attempt to get going with them but I'd had it so jumped in the broom wagon. I've done Ingleborough with cramp before and there's no way I'm going to go through that again thank you very much .
Felt ok till just before Ribblehead when the wheels came off. Nearly packed it in there but decided to do the honourable thing and continue to the hill inn where I was timed out (by a fair margin so didn't feel too bad about it). Back next year with better preparation and this time I really will drink the water and eat rather than just carrying it round for the fun of it.
Was anyone slower than my 5:05?
Did you notice 63% of the entrants were in the vet category?
I also had the dreaded inner-thigh cramp going up Ingleborough. Bl**dy painfull and very difficult to stretch out. Most of the muscle strain is on quads/calfs, so why do the inner thighs cramp. Any experts out there who can help ?
If its upper inner thigh that is cramping then it could be your hip flexors causing it. Other option is you are using your adductors to rest other muscles which is going to cause cramping fairly quick as the adductors work more as a stablising muscle in runners.
Well done to everybody who ran yesterday I was watching at Ribblehead with JJ and chris, When i was watching i did feel like i wanted to be out there and be running with you all but im glad that i decided that i did not do even though about 5 people tried to make me change my mind. I met 2 new forumites millepede and feet in the cowclaps and i spoke to quite a few. How did your kids enjoy it yesterday JJ
A fine day in the Dales. Everything went according to plan for a change - no cramp and no bonk - and the old man managed to erase the memory of his previous disastrous attempt. What a long cruel descent it is from the top of Ingleborough, much harder than it looks.
Had a brief chat with Moo coming down from Penyghent and judging by his comments earlier in this thread, think we were parked next to Detritus21 and were chatting to you back at the car after the race (the old man was wearing his orange Foreign Legion hat).
Well done everybody. See you next weekend at the Lllangwing.., the Llynwang... - that championship race in North Wales.
Woof!
What a race , I had no idea that wernside was going to be that steep or that long!
Was ok untill the Hill Inn (3.06) but really struggled up Ingleborough. Thanks to whoever was handing out jelly babies on the Top.
at one point on the final decent I had cramp in both calves and in my thigh which was an experience.
was really pleased to finished in 4.41
Hi,
Great day out yesterday, what an atmosphere! I thought it was abit too warm at ground level though. Thanks go to all the spectators dishing out drinks and jelly babies and shouting their support, ringing bells, really gave me a buzz. I had the biggest smile when i saw the finishing field, i think that was more relief though! Cheers to Pudgy for talking me into trying it and for the race plan beforehand, it paid off, i was well impressed to finish in 03.49hrs. Stairs are a bugger today!! :p
Well done Sol you seemed to have a good run yesterday i bet work will be fun in the next for the next few days
Yeah, well done Sol, I didn't know you were running it. I take back all I said about your ice creams at Pendle!
