"The weather forecast is wintry with an all day frost and a light northerly breeze. So the mud will be frozen but the Stiperstones Ridge will feel bitterly cold with the wind in your face. Be prepared and anybody not wearing full body covering will not be allowed to start."
Moley, I assume you and the Missus will be include The Horseshoe Inn on your route.

Did you enjoy it Molehill - you were looking resplendent in those stripey tights - no chance of losing you in the hills. I was sweeping and sauntered around gawping at the views- we couldn't have had a better day.
This Saturday before Christmas started about 8 years ago with about 40 entries and run out of Roger's garage. This year there were 146 pre entries and a further 55 on the day. I think that part of the appeal was the fact that it was a preview of part of the 2011 Housman 100 route but perhaps more a general desparation to avoid Christmas shopping.
Great to have so many walkers and runners - and given the numbers - a fantastic turn out of marshals including the ladies whgo produced 150 baked potatos and beans. Funnily enough none of them wanted baked potato for dinner last night.
Did you know by the way that the provisional route for the 2011 hundred is available on the eccentric Marches Group LDWA website. Perhaps nearer for you to recce than the Heart of Scotland.
A lovely day out and thanks to the Marches and their 'Smooth Operations' group of helpers.
I think the numbers simply go to show how much the running/walking fraternity would prefer to do anything but spend a day Christmas shopping :eek:. A last ditch chance of some fresh air and exercise before the horrors of next weekend.
Typing this from work, best get my head down and do some I s'pose - looks a lovely day out there:(.
just bagged an ace cottage in Cracoe (just a couple of miles from the start/finish at Threshfield) - sleeps 8 - 180 quid for 3 nights - ideally situated encircled by the route of Trollers, so should mean the Slug Clan can cheer me on at more than one point! :cool:Quote:

I was out today on a recce for the LDWA That's Lyth event (January 31st) when I came across this stile! According to the route notes the run crosses the non-existent fence at this stile.:confused:
It's going to be interesting to see how many people go over and how many go round:D

Was wondering if anyone had entered the 2 Crosses event being held on 17th January 2010 that sets off from Tootington near Buryand is being orgnanised by the East Lancs LDWA.
I also sent off an entry for the Anglezarke Amble on the same day and got confirmation through a few days ago.
Don't want to turn up on the day to be told I don't have an entry.
Will ping another e-mail to the organiser in the meantime.
I've entered 2 crosses and received back confirmation and route description. Did you put in a sae? I only entered a few weeks ago. I'm number 138, so there's a fair few doing it, but presume there will still be space. I'm hoping it's not quite as icy as last year (or was it the year before?)
It was icy last year, socks. I remember the frozen-solid ground and sheet ice, but it was warming up and the rain was just starting. Sheet ice disguised as puddles made for interesting footing.

LDWA events are so laid back and friendly that it's hard to feel anything other than positive about them, before, during or after. I'm sure that you'll have a great day and soon be back for more.

DT - I have a copy which you can borrow if you'd like. I enjoyed it. Brought back some of those memories. I "saw" the bridge at Bolton Abbey from a mile away! Funny that it wasn't quite the same design by the time I got there...

There were 247 entered when the decision was made! Limit 250 but expect there will be a few dropouts. It'll be a nice day out in March. Week after the Hobble so I should hopefully reach my targets for March.
Er, I've also entered Trollers Trot, my first event of this type, any advice most welcome! I've bought a compass and it is really pretty.

Can somebody clue me in with kit requirements and confirm that it actually starts from Threshfield. The on-line info for this is sparse to say the least and some even refers to a 27 mile route starting off from Bolton Abbey. A good link to the current route wouldn't go amiss either.
