    Welcome Simba (and Mrs Simba).
LDWA events are so laid back and friendly that it's hard to feel anything other than positive about them, before, during or after. I'm sure that you'll have a great day and soon be back for more.

    Good luck, enjoy the experience.

    Has anybody read the book?

"Out On Your Feet. The Hallucinatory World of Hundred Mile Walking"

    by Julie Welch.

She must be good if she can write:

    or even on this thread

Seen a copy of the Hundred book XRunner and been meaning to buy it. Did Yoredale event and remember seeing a field of giant black beetles the size of transit vans about 36hours in so has a certain resonance for me

DT - I have a copy which you can borrow if you'd like. I enjoyed it. Brought back some of those memories. I "saw" the bridge at Bolton Abbey from a mile away! Funny that it wasn't quite the same design by the time I got there...

    I am a big fan

I first read some of her stuff when she did football match reports in the mid-90s if I remember correctly. I had never read a football report written like that before and it really impressed me at the time. I recall one particular match report Gillingham v Exeter I think (Old Div 3) when she was praising the virtues of having "local" clubs on your doorstep and the problems they had getting support because of the "BIG" clubs. I just googled it and found it !

"The awful thing about Gillingham's plight is that it is so common to little clubs where you may not see great football but you do get warmth and a sense of belonging. As the tentacles of clubs like Manchester United reach out and grab your children's hearts, you remember that there is nothing like having football at the end of the road. Even if your windows do get broken."!

Was hoping to pay on the day as was unsure re childcare if I'd make it or not? I've emailed too to see if I can get in given I've not pre entered and have now passed the date to do so, but does anyone know if it's still on given the 'adverse weather conditions' I believe a decision was being made today

Emmilou, see separate thread. Now 21st March subject to confirmation.

There were 247 entered when the decision was made! Limit 250 but expect there will be a few dropouts. It'll be a nice day out in March. Week after the Hobble so I should hopefully reach my targets for March.
