MTB for a couple of hours I hope... it is way too cold for the road at -5 :-O I'd freeze within an hour!
At the moment though, my printer has stopped collaborating, si I am not going anywhere until it is fixed, which rpoabbly means I end up on the track :(
And breathe..... :)
Before I actually killed the printer by throwing it out streight through the window, I shut it down, and the latop... and went home, got changed and got out on the MTB, streight up the hill :) Wasn't too muddy and 2.5 hours of lovely play on the hill sees me feeling calm and composed again!
Now I need to go back to work and face that printing job.... < beathe in, breather out > < checks lights for potential night ride >
Ok, I am off, laters!
Yes! First post baby ride, ok only to the cafe to meet club run on it's way back in. So 8ish uphill miles out. But hard work! And got overtaken by a mountain biker ( sob).
Talkin of which ordered £250 mountainbike in wiggle sale :D
Whoop Ratfink :) As I said elsewhere, popping babies is hard work, well done on getting back so well and so soon :D
I managed 4.5 hours on the road... through MOnmouthsire :) from home to Abergavenny, Usk, Chepstow, Devauden, Trellech, MOnmouth, Rockfield, Cross Ash, Campston Hill, Llanvihangel Crucorny, Pandy and home. Toffer will know what I mean... Little de-tour to follow hounds... nice ride, but well cold...
I was using some cheap gadgets I bought the other day: heated insoles, in my neoprene and goretex winter boots... I thought they weren't doing much, as they didn't feel warm, until I ran out of batteries (they only last 3 hours) and suddenly had iceclumps for feet :)
I passed a mountain biker whilst running today, amazing feeling! :w00t:
Saturday: 80km, 1,000m climbing. 60km club ride with Dulwich Paragon into E.Sussex plus 20km return trip from home. Av speed 24kph.
Sunday: 115km, 2,000m climbing. 95km club ride with DP into E.Sussex and Kent plus 20km. Av speed 27-28 kph.
Both glorious days, frosty fields bathed in sun and mist, but no ice on t'roads.
So my saturday ride was 23k/450m
Sunday got out for another 17k/340m
Today 20 min on turbo in the yard til bambino woke up :)
Blumming heck Zoot and Ratty, gunner have to start a serious cycling thread and leave this to the semi nutters.
PS two good efforts though.
6m and 8m to work and home, bloody cold, hands and feet suffered even with all the gear on!
Good effort Ratters!
Me, an hour in the shed this evening gradually discarding garments in some sort of bizarre turbo strip tease as I slowly got hotter and hotter. Saddo or what!!
Shattered! Found myself with an unexpected morning off here in London, so did 3.5 hours mainly laps of Richmond Park. Was very cold, but good... then I had my commuted to the art fair and back, so totalled 82 miles today in a little under 4.5 hours :w00t:
KNACKERED :w00t:
Here we go, now going metric
28k with 310m climb. Got a little wet on the way to work but enjoyed the ride.
Looking for a dryer and less windy ride home in the mid-afternoon.
Usual 14km MTB commute.
After an early 1mile swim and a large breakfast
Return 28k but with 475m of ascent.
Nice evening and good ride, just starting to feel a little improvement.
Getting about 1.5 hour of commuting in, yesterday and today... Early start tomorrow, for an additional couple of hours around Richmond Park... then, with commutes on Saturday and Sunday of 1 hour each, I shall have done 14 hours for the week come Sunday evening :) I am back on track base building :)
ok wet and windy ride today 36km 580m (22mi 1900ft) stopped at a cafe after 16mi and had to have sugar in my tea :o (and scone AND cake)

Just an hours commute today, well, only half an hour done so far, still in work till 7 pm, then half an hours ride back... Hoping to feel less shattered tomorrow morning at 6 am when the alarm goes off, so I can fit in a couple of hours on the bike before commute and work... But so far, after Tuesdays great ride, I have simply been too tired. It is surprising how tiring it is to stand around all day... especially wearing heels. My legs hurt on the return journey!

today's ride - even windier than yesterday's (fortunately less rainy!) 34km 530m (21mi 1750ft)
Hann what do you do for work - working weekends and wearing heels??
Saturday: what was meant to be a 40-mile club ride, got out into Kent, stopped to help a backmarker with puncture, between us realised we didn't know where we were, navigated by the sun back into London ('well, if that's south...'), and unwittingly clocked up 65 miles.
Sunday: tried to go out with the fast club ride, legs had nothing in them, got dropped after an hour, still ended up doing 40 very windy miles, mostly solo.
Feel totally done in today.
Ratfink, I run an arts centre and sculpture park. It is a foundation without funding, so in order to keep things ticking over we have to sell art as well... so we go to art fairs and hold selling exhibitions in London...
That sounds fab!!
Bought myself some Tacx bike rollers. A bit mad at first getting the hang of them but ok now but have to concentrate or they spit you off!. So tonights ride was 30mins and 9.36 miles
Well, lovely 3.5 hour ride yesterday in good company, as well as a quick couple of hours before wirk this morning! Set off at 6 am, back just before 8... :w00t:
Back on to bike after bad cold for a week.
2 x 28k approx 800m in total for the climb.
Felt a little tired but didn't get wet or battered by the winds so all in all a good days bike work.
I should probably start using my Garmin with HR monitor again, so that I actually know what I am doing, rather than potter over the lanes for a certain amount of time :)
well done both of you
two hours' spin last night - hard and very sweaty work it was too...
Never tried spinning... problem is, nearest spinning class would be at Newport velodrome... If I drive all the way there (35 miles) I rather go and ride the track :)
Well the resistance you get are your gears, so just ride the bike as if you were on a flat road. I've been weighing the two up turbo or rollers and just thought the rollers would be abit more interesting to train on. The reviews I read said that they were also good for core muscles and that you get a better work out on them. I must admit never tried a turbo so can't compare. Rollers easier for me because when finished I can slide them under the bed out of the way. I can't stand cycling in the winter and I also don't want to take my beloved Italian bike out on the shitie roads
Due to a totally innocuous calf strain whilst running in Derbyshire I've been out on the bike 3 times this week, 16 then 20 then 26 today. I've enjoyed the work and can feel it in my legs but my feet (mainly toes) have been falling to sleep and are pretty numb by the time I've got back home. I have a pair of Shimano shoes and they are "snug" but not overly tight when I'm walking around in them. Do the regular cyclist on here have any tips when picking shoes? I guess like most other sport shoes certain brands are narrower than others, are there any brands which are generally wider than others? I suppose it could also be down to the cold but I don't tend to get cold feet when running, even in long cold and wet conditions.
but feet tend to get colder on the bike in my experience askern, cos of the wind-chill, plus you are 'using them less' than in running - so I think it probably is the cold
a pair of overshoes are essential winter cycling kit, in my opinion
Endura do OK ones for £16-20 I think.
Well actually i prefer motor bike instead of bike, because i just love to ride my Honda on speed. I will share some pictures of my ride.
there's been some great riding weather this winter though - not much rain, lots of sun ... Missed out December altogether but other than that been out most weekends, sometimes both days.
But I agree riding in the dark and / or rain in the winter ain't much fun: if it's chucking it down I probably wouldn't go out, but once I'm out I'll stay out even if it starts raining.
Helps to have a crap bike.
