The choose your own route thing sounds just fine! I might have a sniff around over new year, there doesn't seem to be many races on that take my fancy. I'd say it'd be 50/50 ridge or scree looking at the map...

Mr B, The Fairmile Downhill race usually is staged at minute intervals if this is the case for Yarlside you could get up there for the first slot and get back up for the final slot and do both routes :w00t:
My ancient and long standing tradition of picking up an injury at a critical point in the race calendar has born fruit again. Give me f***ing strength Saint Norman, deliver me from this evil.
That's a shame Mr B, was thinking of running a few of these kwl races, and not that you'd know me from Adam, but we've been finishing similar over the recent short stuff. You finished right behind me at Dunnerdale (shook hands at the finish) and you beat me on the downhill at Wansfell, would've been interesting to see how I fared against you on these 'uns.
Can anyone give me an idea of the route for the Scout Scar race on Sunday? Cheers.
I've self-diagnosed the problem as runner's knee, which is a non-specific inflammation of the tissue around the patella. It usually clears up within 5 days, or has done in the past, so sacrificing one of the old dear's cats to a deity carving of St Norman may not be necessary after all. Either way i can't see me putting in a good lap of Scout Scar.
Who is Adam?
No Map No Compass has it about spot on, but it starts from Bradley Field Farm, (the first on the right over the bypass on the Brigsteer road) then it heads off over to the Scar, loops south then back north to the mushroom, then the same way back. The exact route will depend on who is flagging it as I'm quite happy with the odd variation.
This is the way I went last time.....I wasn't aloneAttachment 5509
I'm hoping a bunch of our NEW Ambleside Junior team will be able to get there on Sunday (football matches and families permitting). So if you get there early (an hour early) then please give the juniors some encouragement - they start at 12pm with the U12s. My lot have done lots of training and we're raring to go!
4.65 miles or thereabouts....
can the dweebs have it in metric please
Good turnout today. Quite good underfoot what with all the rain.
Senior race video now online http://www.athleticos.org/video/5619...Fell-Race-2012
Junior one to follow :)
Anybody know how far it was today? Think the course was a bit different to last year.
I recorded 4 miles on my GPS.
Thanks. Good race. Seemed to be a lot of quick runners today. or maybe I'm just getting slower.
That link's comin' up as a blank page?
The vid's available on this page... http://www.athleticos.org/ ...perhaps it hasn't fully uploaded yet?
Managed to get round without any pain from the knee, it's localised to the top of the patella tendon and stings a bit on climbs so i did a lot of walking. Had a screamer of a run in with all that energy left though.
Results are on the Helm Hill website now here http://www.helmhillrunners.co.uk/winter_league.html
Sorry but no times were recorded, there was a problem with the timer thingy.
First kwl run for me, really enjoyed the atmosphere, and managed to turn in a passable performance. On to the next one!
(good to see thee yest Mr B)
It was a great day, and what an enormous turnout for the U12s. It was important for our new Ambleside Junior team to have a good experience on their first event, which they really did, and we'll see everyone next Sunday. Well done to all - the Winter League is a fantastic series. I love it.
