You need to watch the rest of the trilogy now: Sympathy for Mr Vengeance and Lady Vengeance

Ted last night, much better than I expected, the aerial scene made me 'snort' with laughter, The Wicker Tree tonight, Robin Hardy's loose sequel to The Wicker Man, I have a feeling I may be disappointed but we'll give it a go.
Touching the void. Inspirational and outstanding.
Just seen The Hobbit and really enjoyed it. They've not rushed through the story in the way they did with LOTR.
We saw it "normal", pretty close to a big screen. I suspect the close-up action scenes would have looked quite different in HFR - of course I was aware of HFR at the time I was watching it, so I noticed the flicker more than I normally would. We played it safe, although I don't think we had HFR as an option where we went anyway. My eyes & the eyes of one of the Splatchettes are dodgy enough already without bending them to the demands of 3D. In theory, close-up to a big screen should be where HFR gives a big advantage - maybe we'll go HFR for part 2.
Tinker Taylor, and the U.S Girl with the dragon tattoo. Enjoyed both, really surprised the remake of girl was as good as it is.
Fearless (1993/Peter Weir/Jeff Bridges)
not seen it for years, so treated myself to the Korean region-free DVD for crimbo
Up, quality Pixar effort
First 12 minutes is a challenge. Grown men shouldn't cry at a cartoon should they.
Going to see Les Miserables in about half an hour. :)
Stunning. Brilliant. Fantastic. Must see again. :D
I watched Prometheus tonight and enjoyed it. I was expecting something a bit more deeper when I would be scratching my head afterwards trying to work out exactly what was going on. It was however quite straight forward, a prequel to Alien with all the usual Alien ingredients with only one question for me concerning the cave paintings.
I googled it and wished I hadn't as every nerd on the planet (as well as me :o ) had an opinion on the paintings not to mention every other aspect of the film :D
THIS WILL BE THE GREATEST MOST AMAZEBALLS MOVIE EVER

...probably
Saw Jack Reacher and Skyfall last week. Jack Reacher was watchable to nothing to really write home about. Enjoyed skyfall, apart from ending at the house thought that was pretty poor. Off to see Django unchained on wednesday with high expectations. Also got a copy of this crazy looking beauty to watch......

Anyone seen it? I know a lot of people rave about Jodorowski's work, especially El Topo.
Watched 'Looper' last night. You need to concentrate on this one a little as it involves time travel and a couple of the scenes are a little confusing though it gets clearer as you progress through the film. "Criminals" are sent back in time to be killed by contract loopers. It gets a bit complicated when the loopers themselves in the future are sent back to be killed by their younger selves to "close the loop". Bruce Willis plays the older looper and J. Gordon Levitt plays Brucie's character as a young man (you don't actualy see Brucie till about 15 minutes into the film)
I enjoyed it
The holy mountain is fantastic. First 25 minutes are easily the weirdest things I've ever seen, and I've seen some stuff. After that the dialogue starts and a vague plot develops. Remains weird throughout but strangely intriguing. You can easily see why it has gained cult status, and I'm eager to see some more of Jodorowski's work. Think El Topo will be next.
Anyway just short of 12 hours till Django unchained, and boy am I excited!
The Wicker Man.
A fascinating period piece and all the practice in hammer films comes good to create a genuinely creepy and weird atmosphere. Christopher lee is genuinely disturbing.
Best film I've seen for a long time is the best exotic marigold. very much a who's who of british acting.. simple movie, but just very watchable.
I enjoyed skyfall, thought the ending was a tad odd.. all that for M to die anyway.. wanted to know where the final scenes were set as they were in glencoe for a bit, but the end looked more east highlandsy.. turned out that was all down in the south.. surrey or somewhere..
So Django. Well to put it short its brilliant. Stand out performers are Christoph Waltz and Samuel L Jackson.
Don't want to spoil it, just go and watch it you won't be disappointed.
Watched Django... really liked it.. I thought Jamie Foxx was great too.. in fact I thought everyone was, a tarrantino classic..
Thought it a good one to see on the big screen too..
Point Blank (1967, Lee Marvin) - bought myself the Dutch R2 DVD for crimbo - full 1:2.35 anamorphic - gorgeous!
re-watching right now with the commentary soundtrack (John Boorman talking with Steven Soderbergh) http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/forum/...erd_smiley.gif
I watched 'J. Edgar' over the weekend. Its Clint Eastwood's biopic of J. Edgar Hoover and how he more or less single handedly set up the FBI. A fairly sentimental portrayal and probably needed a bit more on the nasty things he got up to which didn't get a lot of attention in the film. Good portrayal by de Caprio of Hoover and a nice little cameo of Hoover's mum by Judi Dench.
probably the most famous scene is Marvin walking determinedly down the airport tunnel with his shoes making a fantastic metronomic echoing/clicking sound
in the commentary, Boorman said that after Marvin died, his widow asked if there was anything he'd like, and he asked for those shoes!
The Raid, as recommended on here.
And 'Grave Of The Fireflies' cheery ending that.
Anyone seen the new Die Hard yet? Looks quite good..
Watched some Clint film.. baseball scout.. 'Trouble with the curve'.. clint being clint.. awesome.. did have Justin Timberlake.. but surprisingly OK..
I've been struggling with Looper, watching a bit of it here and there over the past few nights. I thought it was supposed to be good (93% on Rotten Tomatoes) but I'm just not getting it. I don't really like the world its set in, don't like the drugs to the eyeballs, don't like it that everyone is selfish and horrible, don't like the children killing thing, don't like the torture of a looper when young having immediate effects on his future self (believe or not that makes sense in the film), don't as yet understand the TK thing and as for the time travel it is of course bollocks (that said the time travel in Terminator and Bill & Ted was equally bollocks but also brilliant at the same time). I've still got 15 minutes to go so it could all turn out great in the end.....
Dredd - i am the law
I'm 60 minutes into Lawless.... Not sure I can last much longer. Interesting to note after I'd bought it that Nick Cave (The Bad Seeds) wrote the screenplay.
Went to see 'Hitchcock' tonight at the Bradford Media Museum. Very good, came home and ordered a Hitchcock boxed set.
