70 mins hilly trail/woodland/fell run on Danefield & Chevin. I've said it before but I'll say it again that's the wettest I've ever known it up there - including a raging torrent all the way down the track between Chevin and Danefield(tho only about 4" at deepest!!)
Hope the old guy I saw struggling down one of the narrower muddier steeper woodland paths in just t-shirt, shorts and what looked like road shoes in the worst of the icy rain managed to get warmed up once he got back to his car.
A stones throw less than 16 around Black Hill & Torside this morning. 3515 feet up and down, a couple of dips, Dean Clough & CLB were a bit minty. Lots of deep snow on top and hit my route bang on. Nice to meet up with three other like minded trotters. You can't beat wading a groin deep stream in -8 wind chill with only the thought of another stream wade to cheer you up.
Short run this afternoon - just under 4 miles, 1400 feet up and down, in and out of Rivelin Valley.... Just trying out my new NB rx terrain shoes after a day looking after a sickly dog.
I'd agree with that - my other pair of shoes are 840s which are generally great. I have found they've not got enough grip contouring on wet muddy grass or descending on peat... otherwise excellent shoes though. Got the RXs for £25 from ebay (unused!) which even leaves me a few quid spare to buy some road shoes.
Just come back from a little one from Kettlewell to Starbotton by the low route, then back over the east side by the cam roads. It was freezing on top and the wind was really driving the sleet into my face, my paws were numb by the time i was at Top Mere Road.
I'm going to look into getting a fell shoe with more cushioning, opted for the walshes today over the trail shoes but they're awful on the cam roads, may take a look at those NB ones you've got Merry.
6 miles. not too quick.
Only just made it today, flooding everywhere, man hole covers off, white water along and over roads but got there, just.
hard race in thick clack over Rud Hill to Burbage bridge, fortuanatly there was only one puddle, unluckily it covered the whole moor:eek: very cold wet feet. Going under Burbage bridge was impossible as it was a raging torrent. good blast down the valley to reverse the Plummet up to Higger and across to Mitchell field and the steep climb up callow bank. across to Cowper Stone and then best route to to Stanage Pole. very wet with reports of near total emergence, certainly a few chest deep falls and the odd swim. Friars ridge is a scarey place. never seen it so wet. back to Rud hill and car park. cold and very wet but a real good blow out.:D
7.8mile 1200ft
Did a recce of the Cannock Chase trig point route
4.25 mile XC in the pouring rain early this morning.
16 miles on the hilliest bit of the Sandstone Trail yesterday. That's 40 miles & 5800ft in a week, & I'm knackered. It better turn out to be worth it - I'll find out on the Hebden I suppose. I'm really enjoying training harder, but I am a bit tired the rest of the time. Solo Xmas shopping on my annual visit to the big city (Manchester) on Saturday had me wandering round like a zombie until I had a pint of Holt's in the Ape & Apple at lunchtime.
First training run for 3 weeks, besides the FTOP last weekend, but that was a race.
Nice and easy 5 miles on the hills from my front door, around 1000ft.
reccy of Tanky's on Saturday: 21 miles, 4,000ft in the snow and fog
not exactly tapering, as the race itself is next Sunday but a very helpful training run I reckon in all senses
last race before tanky's (5.86 mile). one steady run tommorow and a social run on Weds and thats it till Sunday
Two laps of Farnhill Pinnacle, total c5.5ml/900ft in the moonlight. A splendid end to a rather good weekend
About 6 miles up to Pikestone farm, Coldberry and home, mainly intervals along a very icy lane and a few old Landrover tracks. But what a moon and what a brilliant night - snow on the N. Pennines - magic.
20 minute interval session on the treadmill at school, waiting for sets of parents to arrive to hear about their offspring - reminds me how dull and noisy treadmills are!
Tried 5 minute mile pace for 1 minute at a time, with a minute of 8 minute mile pace recovery, and that was OK so thought I'd see what 4 minute mile pace felt like.... could barely manage 25 seconds. How do the elite manage it???
Never bothered making a training post before, but felt inspired to after tonight's little run.
Went out for a quick half hour up and down the nearest hill (~200m) to my house - it was meant to be my first ever headtorch run, and a chance to see if my alpkit gamma was good enough for such things - however...
such a beautiful clear night with that bright moon, I didn't even need to turn the headtorch on - magic :D:D:D (and not a werewolf in sight - though I did almost run over a small dog who's owners I'd recently passed and been asked if I'd seen their dog anywhere)
Anyway - after that joyous experience, I think I'm going to pay more attention to the lunar cycles from now on - the clear skies might be a bit more of a problem though:(
Had 3 week off due to injury and feel sluggish and full of wine. Did the KCAC duathlon last night, but cycled and mountain biked rather than ran in order to sweat some crap out in order to try and run properly tonight. However the pub and a bottle of wine afterwards put paid to my good intentions.
Nice 8 to 9 miles Pendling this afternoon.
Absolutely brilliant clear conditions, and the frost provided a perfect semi-hard surface to run on, so much faster than the last few weeks, loved it!
Could see all the snow-capped fells over to the Dales, might pop up this week sometime for a trot in the snow if possible. There should be another layer added tonight!
not a proper session but a last gentle trip over Bleaklow to rain guage and back to check the route conditions still very wet, quite a bit of snow and the odd patch of ice. Will post this on the TT thread aswell
about 10 miles 1,500ft cold and claggy
Pleasant short run at the back end of Pendle last night with Derby Tup, Southern Softie, Brett and others in attendance.
Very stiff this am after nearly 3 weeks off. Excellent run by Brett who I only stayed front of cos of a series of gates at the end.
Cross Country with my old school
A 1st place :D
Easy 30 min through undulating woods
Steady 5 miles round my secret fell training route with the mutts ;)
Take a look at this

I did my first headtorch run last night! Only five miles along the canal, mind, but I only fell over once, -which I thought was good.
I've walked in the dark before, but I enjoyed the run. didn't seem noticeably slower than my usual slow pace, but no stop-starty bits 'cos of other dogs etc, so it was certainly different. I'd definitely do it again!
8 miles 6400ft....dont ask how just some serious hill reppage
5 miles, about 3 feet...
oh well, I can only get better!
1.5m jog with Mrs.Merrylegs, 2mins rest then another 1.5m jog again with Mrs.Merrylegs and 26lb rucksack, she beat me in a sprint finish:o
3m furthest she's ever done, well done mrs;)
Off for a 5m trot on my own now in an attempt to clear the world's supply of snot from head before Tanky's:D
5 x 1 mile in Heaton Park. Not much climbing involved and def no need for a head torch this morning!!!
Warm up and warm down totalling a 10 mile morning.
1hr31 around Chevin & Danefield, plenty of hills and mud.
Had a natter with Wharfedale Harriers webmeister in car park afterwards - he'd cycled there from sunny Lothersdale:)
Successfully not run for a month!!
