You're right I spend alot of time on-line. I retired 10 years ago, so FRA, home brewing and the stock market on-line fill alot of my down time. The rest of the day is just dull things like running, brewing, housework, furniture restoration, shopping and cooking.

spot on. i understand many peoples PoV on here when stating that whats private should stay private but feel they have missed the key point that he is a public figure who willingly takes the millions. aside from that he is a role model to thousands of 8-28 year olds and should be aware of how his actions will always be under scrutiny.
as usual with these highly paid sport 'stars' all wil be forgiven and forgotten in a few weeks providing they perform in their chosen sport.

I'm with Daz on this. In many respect its the News of the World that has the morals of the gutter, hacking into people's private mobile conversations for instance and generally bottom feeding, scouring here there and everywhere for dirt to dish. Wayne Rooney is a superb footballer but like Noel said he's been handed a load of money and has an extremely public profile - like most lads of his age, he's inclined to learn not to do stupid things by doing them first and finding out what a stupid thing it was to do after. That could be the epitaph on quite a few peoples tomb stones including mine.... although I hasten to add spending £1200 a night on a prostitute has never been a mistake that I've ever been able to make :)

back to my first point to ian before i was rudely interrupted and sidetracked by roy was that the story about wayne is of no importance because wayne is a just a citizen as anybody else.
mr hague on the other hand is paid by the public to represent them and it is because of this we have a right to know what our politicians are up to. if the story is true then mr hague has to go.

If it's not in the contract, then I think that the sponsors will reconsider renewing his contract when it's next up for negotiation, a bit like the Tiger Woods was dropped by many of his sponsors. Perhaps that will ease some of the pressure on the poor misunderstood lad & he can start to grow up or at least accept that he has responsibilities towards his wife & family.Quote:

I wonder why people make the point about role models and the fact that Roonie is a poor one - I'd say that a sports superstar being humbled, being found not to be as bulletproof as he clearly thought he was and being made to face up to his own arrogance is a perfect lesson in life for kids. My younger daughter (15) follows super league really closely and considers all footballers wusses anyway but even she realises what a prat Rooney has been. It's an odd business. People in the Forces share hotel rooms all the time, usually same sex, but occasionally not. Often with a friend, but sometimes with a stranger, or with someone you don't like. We also do hot-bedding, where one gets out to work and the one coming off shift climbs in.
The German idea of a twin room used to be one bedframe with 2 single mattresses and duvets in a sort of Morecambe and Wise set-up, they call a double bed, as we know them, a French bed. This will have probably changed in multi-national hotels, but don't be surprised if you end up in one in a B&B.
I reckon Noel's right, Mr Hague would have gone for the 2 room option if he was having a bit on the side.
I only think we have a right to know what politicians are up to if it's something that directly relates to the job they're supposed to be doing.... where or with whom they're playing hide the sausage, as long as it's legal, is no-ones business but their own.

derby, you are right about mr rooney. as everyone on this forum knows i am the biggest man united fan but i have now reached a point where i don't give a toss about football and footballers. before, when i used to go (78-84) before money came into the game it was great. i know they could be tossers then but something has changed and it is just not football but society in general. i no longer understand it and it amazes me, i am probably like my grandma when i was a punk and playing such records as, the dead kennedys and the sex pistols, she thought the whole world was coming to an end.

Problem here is that there is a direct conflict between judging Rooney the footballer and Rooney the UK citizen. A conflict between a talented footballer and a morally flawed young man. I know I would be just as discused to hear the bloke down the road or my colleague at work had done the same.
