dont think you will be a ble to get there at the minute with all the snow  its a beauty of a race, dont know if you have done it before but it is awesome
This looks an interesting event that I don't recall seeing before but for all I know may have typeset a report for it in Northern Runner 20 years ago.
Anyway one thing I did notice was the winning woman for last year's race. Unless I'm mistaken, we paced each other to 10 mile PB's in the Otley 10 mile (or was it Wetherby) back in 1987 when we were both members of the fledgling Abbey Runners club. Looks like she's improved much more than I have in he past 22 years.
It looks like a good event to do but my present plans will have me on my way down to the Pyrenees that weekend.
I see it's full now but not sure when you get your entry confirmed?
Normally you get an e-mail about now to confirm that you are in.
Anyone know how you can contact the organiser to see if you have a place?
I have tried to email twice .I paid the entry money and got the form as soon as it came up but no word if i am in or not ? Hope to go and do it as visiting Swaledale and hearing about it last summer re kindled my off road running!

Hi Ian
Funnily I was thinking exactly the same thing - I've heard nothing, cheque not cashed and I've emailed the race organisers as well.
I'd like to know too as I want to plan my training accordingly.
cheers
Lambert
Hello Lambert ,
did you hear anything?? wonder if i should write as no reply from emails or just take it that i didn't get an entry?
ian
Hi Ian
No nothing for me either nor has my cheque been cashed, I'd like to know either way whether I'm in or not. A bit poor really ...
If I don't get in I'll do the Wharfedale Off Road marathon instead but would just like to know either way.

I entered on 5th Jan. Got my cheque returned a few days ago with a covering note saying I was too late. Really? Anyone else?
Hmm interesting ... suggests there's some movement anyway so I'll either get a cheque sent back or it will go from my account.
I'm in - number 246 - any hints for a first timer?? are there any navigational ruses?
It is definately worth a recce of the course. If its cloudy the landscape between whaw and gunnerside can be forbidding and it will be easy to go wrong if not familiar with the route  in clear weather they're should be no problems ;) they're is a few sections were little short cuts can save you 30 secs here n there but nowt major. It is important to know the best line of descent through the myriad of stone walls above Gunnerside, stay on the main path until JUST before the first farm building is reached then head down to your right over the stile and head diagonally down to your right until picking up path that takes you into gunnerside, the right line here can save you good time ;)
Toward the bottom of the descent off fremington edge (amazing on a mtn bike ), as the path doubles back left above the quarry type workings, look for a steep descent straight down and over the gully infront of you, but beware of small crags beneath you  the course is mainly on very good tracks with a small section a very minor road, so i wouldnt advise fell shoes, i find inov8 terrocs or something of that ilk r ideal
for those not in, dont despair, it is usually easy enough getting a number between now and then...
Hi,
Well I amble with Tickhill Running Club and our coach has done five Swaledales on the trot so gets prior warning for entries ..... we had to dosh up around the 15th december and get the entries in on the day they opened - around xmas time.
I didn't know this and missed out last year.
Thanks for the tip for the other event . I got my returned cheque today. It is obviously a popular event and oversubscribed but I don't know how its possible to get the application in any quicker other than living there --perhaps that's the key!
ian
Never did hear anything in the end and it's academic now as I've made other plans for that weekend. Don't want to diss an event on a public forum (though if you go on Tritalk no one ever has such qualms) but this is pretty poor in my book, not sure I'll rush ever to apply again.
Good luck to those who are doing it.
Lambert,
I know they weren't the best with communication but no communication at all suggests that post might have gone astray.
Has anybody got a number going spare for this race please?
u still after one ambrosia ;) I know of a few going spare! I am doing it, 85% sure I am anyway, although something keeps telling me to do the redcar half the day after, as Id fly round there and it wouldnt take nothing out of me, where as Swaledale will leave a mark :P!!
Anyone ? I'll be there, should be in fine fettle for this ;)
Hi Rev, did you make it to Swaledale. Couldn't spot you and you're usually quite easy to pick out. D
Haha quite easy to pick out, ye I suppose i am :p I regrettably had to bail out of this one very last minute ( literally on the morning ), I picked up a bad knee playing 5 a side for a couple of hours the day I also ran Ossy Oiks, then the day after I ran Blencathra before doing some further running in the lakes last weekend, this has left one of my knees crocked, thought it would be alright by race day but its not and it wouldve been foolish to race at Swaledale, anything else I might of risked it, but knees are precious so.....another week off for me....How did you get on like? (not that I recognise you by the name) :)
Oh Rev ! Football or running, choose one ! Last time I played 5-a-side I slipped 2 discs in my back. Never again. I had you down for a podium finish too ! Hope you're ok pal.
Hi Rev, was talking to you at Ossy Oiks after the race, I was the one bleeding in green Swaledale green top. Recognised you from your pic. SM went pretty well, was hoping for 3:40 but cramped on Blades after climb out of Gunnerside, finished in 3:45. Take it easy and get back to it soon.
So, I managed a PB with 26 mins to spare :w00t: what's all that about then ... great day for it and it all worked out for me! glad to be back after a dodgy IT band kept me sidelined for 3 months. Was dead chuffed with 4.24
Mike n Dek, it sounds like u had good runs out, pretty envious of you right now :/
Ye Jez I was hopeful of a good run as I felt freshened up after the marathon and I know I was dead fit and wouldve went really well but I will be back to try and win it next year haha :)
Do you know what the records are for this race?
Not sure but here's the results for the 2011 race
http://www.swaledaleoutdoorclub.org....549&Itemid=192
I seem to recall last years was won by Matthew Hayes in 3.08, this year he dipped in at 3.06 .... very well done I say!!
In the past this race was regularly won with times just under the 3hr mark, but since the advent of the checkpoint at Blades, ensuring runners take the current route over the last few miles, I dont recall the 3hr mark being broken (getn on for 10 year I think), but some dude from Nottingham way won it for years on the trot up until recently and without knowing exactly, I seem to recall him getting very close to 3hrs.
This years top3 times were all good going and the 3 lads are obviously fantastic runners :)
Well done to me auld marra Ambrosia Kid aka Rice Pudding Boy. 19th overall and 3rd V50 gadgy, canny bonny lad and very generous with the nuclear broons and Go-bar bait;)
Anyone going tomorrow? Its my first time for this one. Hopefully the rain will stop!
I did it! ... and managed 49th position out of 419 finishers  .... and avoided that rain storm:w00t: ... what a downpour!!!!! stair rods weren't in it.
Did a report as per usual

cheers

Got our entries in the post yesterday - it usually clashes with the LAMM so this is the first chance we've had to try it.
