They were so fast that I actually thought that the Springfield Striders had taken the lead on leg 1 when me and partner went past P+B pair. Little did I know that they were 5 mins up the road. We ended up 4th on leg 1 but for about 15 mins after I still thought we were 3rd. Great run by those 2. Quality event.Quote:

Was great to a part of the event yesterday. Unlike Andy thorpe, I was too busy chasing my Irish lover/nemesis across the moor, to whack him with my handbag. Andy gloated the whole of leg 5 about the fact that he was leading the calderdale relay. To the point, great atmosphere at the heath rugby club and good tuck too (got 50 extra slices at the end)
CVFR rule...another win in December should cement that.
Performance of the day-would have to be Manchester United...ahead from the start :p

You have to saviour these moments as you never know when they will come round again (hopefully December this year ;) ). Its fair to say that my kids at school today didn't get the full attention they deserved as in my head I was still skipping through the fields of Halifax, baton in hand. Oh, and a word about the finish, yesterday - the next time you go 'pushing someone around', pick on someone your own size.....

It was more than likely to be Pete Hartley. He took photos for the first 4 legs as far as I know. Some of them will probably appear in the next fellrunning mag. I don't think he has website to view them.

:thunbdown: The race organisers with races on that date will be fairly p+++ed off, and will probably have to change there dates, or face low numbers, has I did this year when the date was changed, the concensus of opinion among the runners I have talked to would sooner have it in December as there is to much going on in May for clubs to get enough runners for teams. Oh well thats commitees for you always coming unanimously to the wrong decisions.Quote:

I am slightly dissapointed because it will lose its character for sure and always like it just before christmas had a good feel to it. However it probably has come down to marshalling and simply there were more availabilites to marshall at the may event. At least now the Mytholmroyd fell race now falls on a that date so hopefully this will become established more with some big names (hopefully)

Let’s provide a balance to this argument. I personally feel this is a greatmove by Halifax Harriers to change the date.
Why:
- Reduces the risk of having the event postponed due to the cold weather;
- Improves safety, particularly at the start of leg 1 where people actuallyarrive in the light;
- A more conducive environment for running/recceing- this makes it more appealingfor encouraging newbies into fell running;
- The weather will also encourage more people to hang around and supportfellow team members;
Evidently people don’t like change, and I do feel sorry for current raceorganisers with established races on that date. However, a bit of imaginationand creativity can alleviate this.
Come on- be positive and support this great race!
Will definitely get behind the CWR in May - but its good for organisers to get feedback - the comments reflect how much we all loved the original format/date - mud, ice, snow, fog, darkness and all - summer running is great but we already have that in abundance.
I would happily run either - but I know which I prefer. That said RO is tough job without people complaining; they deserve praise for this great event whenever its run.
Definitely a mistake in my view. Waiting at Blackshaw Head or Wainstalls in horizontal sleet or starting Leg 1 in semi-darkness stumbling through mud and tree roots were what this event was all about. The pre-Christmas slot was ideal with no other major events on that weekend.
Look at the quality of the teams this time round in May. With the exception of Calder Valley (and possibly Salford) the Mens' teams were far weaker. I suspect the same is true of many of the Womens' teams too.
Far too many other events in May - possibly the most congested time of year for quality races, championship races etc. etc.
It's agreat event and I'm happy to run in May or December but given the choice I would go for December.
Agree entirely. Dark Peak have traditionally put out four teams for this event - A & B teams, Vets & Women. This year only the women (with some considerable difficulty) managed to raise a team. Despite having had the three male teams for the postponed December event oversubscribed with runners, we couldn't raise even one male team in May ... and that's a club with over 300 male members.Quote:

It would have been interesting to see the spread of votes from these clubs, the relay's staunchest supporters, if they had been polled over the date change from December to May.
My club ( Abbey Runners ) will probably struggle to get teams together in May but,hopefully will still be supporting it. Rather have it in December though
