Have any of you people bothered to read the Dark Peak website?
If you wanted to race there was plenty time to pre-enter, it filled up slowly.
Or do you just want to have a whinge?
Enjoy your beer Fleeter

Can see where your coming from,If i was in his situation i'd be pissed off if i really wanted to run it and couldn't get a place, but it's the way it came across, there was plenty of time to enter,if he really wanted to run he should have got his entry in on time,it's not hard,I'm sick to death of people moaning about over subscribed races and not getting in,if you really want to run a race, get the entry form filled in as soon as it's available and get down to a post box.I've never had any trouble getting into a race
This isn't a rant at just Balin it's a rant about the idiots that have ruined the forum,It's all gone to serious,to much negativity.I'll be the first to admit i've posted some stupid things in the past but there just seems to be too much of it about now,People need to get a life
I've had enough,That's me done on here
I've had enough,That's me done on here
I hope thats not true Fleeter.
The new idot pops up, probably isn't a member of the FRA and so has no fixture calendar or struggles to understand the text in the handbook.
Don't get wound up by this none discript.
Me and you have some serious races to run and some good beer to drink, so enough of the silly talk.
Snowden me & you 4 a pint
Scarfell me & you 4 a pint
Ben Nevis me & you 4 a pint
Next "billy no mates" will be telling us that Wales and Scotland are full and it's not his fault.
Get some posting done mate to piss the newbie off. He'll be back road running in a flash after the first kit check:)
4 pints?
Don't sound like Fleeter to me.
Was he not well?
Whats wrong with drinking beer AND running? Lightweight tosser!
Here's the bit from the Dark Peak website. I've underlined one bit, especially for the hard of thinking;
Quote:
The race is now full and entries have closed. If you have entered and have not received confirmation or rejection you will do so within the next few of days. To take account of the inevitable dropouts and no shows there are more runners entered than the entry limit. Hence there is not a waiting list, there are absolutely no entries on the day and the entries are not transferable. If anyone requires any further info contact the organiser directly (07970 891778) or check the Dark peak website.
Happy now? (muppet) :rolleyes:Quote:
I am a lightweight tosser, cant argue with that  Your drinking prowess amazes me sometimes, are you running the waltz?,It was funny watching you drink all that beer last time
Count me in for that pint stagger, and what are you on daz?
I'll still post on here,It's a great source of banter and information, just the sure stupidness of some people makes me question why i bother sometimes
I'm staying i'm just not getting into anything like that again, waste of time,I apologise for my response as it was just as childish as his post
I'll be there mate, going up on the friday and going to come back on the sunday, get some hills in and some beer down me,mind you with pudgy beer is inevitable, see you there pal
Still a free country.
And, at the end of the day, it's "only" runnning!
Enjoy the beer Andy. :)
does anyone know what car parking is like, is there a race car park?
There is a race car park which will be signed from the middle of Edale village, I should know, I'm on car park marshalling!
If the parking is in the same place as last year, allow upto 10 minutes to walk back to the Village Hall for registration and kit check - take your bumbag/backpack/etc with you to register, get it checked then go and get yourself changed, or register 'ready to run'. Once your kit is checked, that's what you've got to take with you. The start is again a short distance away, in the field at the foot of Grindsbrook, so allow time for this also.
I was up there this morning and it felt like winter again, with 60mph gusts and the promise of a lot more rain before the weekend. Brown knoll sponge is fairly dry at the moment but i'm sure it'll fill up for Sunday...
Car parking is the same as last year. There are 2 fell race car parks. The first is the hardstanding one near the railway station and close to the Village Hall registration. The other is as Grimmer said about 10 minutes away.
Any idea what drinks are provided at Hope and Mam Nik? Is it cups of water?
Also, the kit list says emergency food but it doesn't stipulate how much. Is there an accepted norm for this?
Stef
..and don't be tempted to dump half the mandatory kit after the kit check; they were doing kit checks up at the start as well last year. The start was delayed by 15 mins while everyone waited for the numpty hardcore to go back to their cars and get the stuff they had been told to bring in the first place:rolleyes:
Cant remember what the drinks were; think it was just water. I was using a bladder pack anyway 'cos it was so warm. I got through two litres and still had to drink out of the streams coming off kinder. Jelly babies were abundant though, and being handed out by Bertie Bassett himself on the way up to Lose Hill.
Hi,
Can anyone advise if the local campsites are open at this time of year? If so are any recommended? I'm travelling down on Saturday night.
Cheers
I'm camping at Coopers Camp and Caravan park, Gringsbrook Booth, Newfold Farm, Edale. Their tel no is 01433 670372. Arrivals are ok up to 11pm. I was quoted £5.50 a night.Quote:

They say the showers are weather dependant (ie shut if it's cold). I've not been before but it's at the start and not many sites are open. Rowter farm is shut until Easter.
In addition to above there are (in Edale)
http://www.upperboothcamping.co.uk/
(very close) http://www.fieldhead-campsite.co.uk/
or if you want to be out of Edale, try
(Hope, 10 mins drive) http://www.lanesidecaravanpark.co.uk/
(Bradwell, 15 mins drive and good chippy and pubs) http://www.edentreecaravanpark.co.uk/
I'm sorry to say I won't be there as I'll be skiing so you won't see me running kit check this year but...
If Andy says waterproof then only waterproof will pass muster. Don't try to play silly bu&&ers and insist 1 jelly baby constitutes emergency food. it doesn't and you will be sent away like the guy who tried last year!!
Dumping kit or trying to bend rules will only get your number noted for the 'Spot check' later. Unlike most races you spend a considerable time up high so don't skimp on kit.
but above all else enjoy.
Have fun every one I'm really jealous and I'll be thinking of you all
Having done compulsory kitchecks previously, waterproof means that, and not pertex. One year we inspected food, as evil conditions were forecast, and those with raisins and only a few jellybabies were sent across to the shop for proper food. As Ian says, take it seriously if conditions are hard.
And don't forget to carry your mobile phone :D. (And although its probably a bit better on the tops, O2 will give you no signal at all in Edale itself).
Last year, kit requirement was downgraded on the day to windproof and according to the organisers that may happen again, but don't bank on it (it was unseasonably sunny).
This is the email;
So the bottom line is;Quote:
Hi Andrew,
The minimum kit requirement includes waterproof trousers which normally have taped seams. So yes, you need them.
However, on the day, the kit that we insist runners carry depends on the
weather conditions. The conditions vary widely. We don't ask runners to carry anything which will not be needed.
Eg If it is 15 degreesC and there is no chance of rain we wouldn't stop
someone taking part if they turned up for the race with only say Pertex
bottoms. However if the forecast is for strong winds and snow/ hail/rain we would.
Most runners who take part and train for this type of event will have both
types with the Pertex type tending to be lighter. I suppose another way of answering your question is to say bring both or at a minimum waterproofs with taped seams. If on the day weather conditions mean you can carry Pertex rather than the 'Waterproof' then great, carry them they are lighter.
Hope that make it clearer.
Best Regards,
Andy

I know this water v windproof issue keeps cropping up time and again but it's not about saving a few grams in weight (not for me anyway).
- Bring waterproofs.
- Bring windproofs if you've got them and want to use them instead.
- Dont use them unless the organisers say it's ok.
It can be v uncomfortable to run in a full waterproof (even a good one like paclite) unless it's very cold (sub 5deg). Windproof allows you to keep warm and sweatfree in a wide range of conditions, it also allows you to keep a jacket on for the exposed bits and the sheltered bits, instead of endlessly taking it on and off.
I fully agree that if there's any forecast risk of rain then waterproof jacket should be mandatory. It's not about keeping warm when running, it's about keeping warm waiting for mountain rescue when you've turned your ankle in the clag on Brown Knoll!! If i train in a windproof and it's raining, i also take a foil bag in my bumbag; it takes up v little space and could save my life.
Thanks Stef F and Grimmer for the camp site details!
Cheers
Unless a miracle happens i wont be doing this now and im gutted:(:( spent sunday night in A and E due to what they called a rotater cuff injury(shoulder).Been training for this for months now so im not to happy at the mo.So,in the unlikely event of finding some emissary of god with healing hands i will see you all there, otherwise have fun all and enjoy whats gonna be a cracking day.Im off now to sulk.
Can anyone advise whether to wear Trail shoes or would you recommend Fell shoes currently training for 3 Peaks in the helly hansen trailcutters.
See you all Sunday morning. As usual I'll be the nervous looking 40 something bloke in the black and orange Milton Keynes vest; there won't be any others. Feel free to say hello.
Cheers - Raymond
I was thinking of taping my arm to my chest and just going for a plod round, dunno yet, gotta see how painfull it is on sunday i guess.
A slight understatement! Tie your shoelaces tight and take a lifebelt...
Mind you, it was pretty dry up there last weekend so we may avoid the worst excesses this year.
I'll be wearing trail-ish shoes (La Sportiv) since there's a steep downhill bit on road in the middle.
I'm slightly nervous about this race - its my first of the year (the high peak marathon doesn't count as my team were just aiming to finish rather than 'racing' per se :)) and quite possibly its my first race since the Fairfield Horseshoe last May where I haven't got a useable 'recovering from injury' excuse to justify a possible poor performance .
Pressure. On.
:) No thats me done for the year.... probably. I only go there when I can see (and wallow in) the bogs at their best ;)
