I thought Danny DeVito was doing the commentary initially as Alex Gibney sounds a lot like him.

I finally got round to watching this film. After reading Michel Faber's novel (now cult novel) over 10 years ago now I always expected it to get to film eventually. A very very loose adaptation of the novel would describe it best. The message behind the film, as I interprate it, compared with the book is a different one too. Having said that the film is very good indeed and talk of it becoming a cult classic in the years to come is entirely justified. I would recommend reading the novel after seeing the film as it may clear up any general questions you have and actually provide you with an extra storyline.Quote:

Noah (2014). I like Darren Aranofsky's films and I am a bit of a sucker for a biblical epic so I thought I would enjoy it and I did. I thought Russell Crowe was very good in the title role. Trouble was I kept waiting for Noah to say "we are going to need a bigger boat" :D Ray Winstone was ..well Ray Winstone who unintentionally provided the best explanation of why some animals went extinct :rolleyes:

Next is Mistaken for strangers. A documentary film where we see a guy whose lived in the shadow of his brother all his film go out and follow his brothers band for a year whilst they are on tour. Tom Berringer's the guy, and his brother is Matt Berringer of The National. It's a bit up and down, and Tom is pretty annoying at times but it comes good in the end. As a big fan of The National I enjoyed it, though think others who aren't into the band may struggle.

I enjoyed the film, thought the casting was good expect for that of Michael C Hall as Kammerer ( I feel he will never move on from Dexter). One thing I think they did get massively wrong was the music - the use of tracks by Tv on the radio, and Bloc party simply didn't work for a film set in the 40's.

I approve of this film.
Me too. I saw it at the Curzon in Ripon with no idea what I was going to see and thought it was brilliant.
Saw Le Weekend the other evening. Poignant and a little depressing in places but I loved the ending.

Not a movie, but The Simpsons parody of 'The Departed' is probably the best Simpsons episode to date, well worth watching i was very surprised.
The writing is piss-poor these days, they need to go back to basics really. '$pringfield' is a good example of how The Simpsons used to be and should go back to being. They now rely too heavily on sarcastic references and vain attempts at irony, both of which the yanks don't understand properly.Quote:

fantastic acting by the lead girl
and tremendously understated yet powerful depiction of the lives of ordinary women in Saudi Arabian society
the scene in which she recites from the Koran is about as moving as anything I've ever seen in film

Pacific Rim - Found it boring. If Guillermo del Toro hadn't directed it the critics would be a bit more honest about this picture. The two nerdy scientists and a cameo from Ron Perlman were all that kept me interested.
